    Hello!

    Allow myself to introduce... myself.
A few of you will already know me as I've been a developer here at Eurogamer for 6.5 years now, but I rarely post on the forum (sorry - it's not you, it's me). You may have seen me at the Eurogamer Expo scanning people in or walking around the show floor with a camera.

I'm here because, despite not owning a bike since I was a kid, I've decided to cycle 300 miles from London to Paris for Amnesty International. Over the next few months I'll be training as much as possible (hopefully resulting in a new username) and posting updates on a little blog: http://chris-on-a-bike.blogspot.com

This is where I beg for your help... I need to raise 1400! I will be paying a big chunk of that myself, as I'm fully aware that it'll be a great experience as well as being beneficial to Amnesty International. If you could sponsor me any amount, I'd really appreciate it! Amnesty really do some amazing work.

They campaign for human rights around the world where the rights we take for granted aren't always given. Amongst other things, there are many people around the world who have been falsely imprisoned (and even tortured) for exercising their right to freedom of speech. Reading the average forum post here on Eurogamer, it's clear that you guys regularly exercise (and abuse) that freedom! ;)

If you're interested, here's some of the work Amnesty do: http://www.amnesty.org.uk/content.asp?CategoryID=10010

If I haven't bored you by now and you're still interested in helping, you can either visit my JustGiving page http://www.justgiving.com/Chris-on-a-Bike or just text "WARD66 5" (or any amount) to 70070.

I will be back with 'interesting' tales of my progress!

    Thanks loads in advance,

    Chris

I might have just accidentally donated twice. That means you now have to do the trip twice. Deal?

@Boab Hah! I don't know how to answer that! Maybe (for a donation) I'll post a photo of me on a toy bike or something similarly humiliating? :)

@RedPanda Thanks for the donation! Yes, well spotted :)

@fatchris Heh I've been toying with the idea of buying another bike to get myself off my rotund arse and into some kind of shape. Just curious to see what kind of result you get.

I've not managed to lose much weight after deciding to get on my bike a hell of a lot more after my sponsored cycle last year but I do feel a million times better and can now run for a train without fear of cardiac arrest. Well worth it Boab.

How about tracking your training using Endomondo or similar stuff. Helped me a lot.

I'll only donate if you ride this to Paris.

@Boab Well I already get quite a lot of exercise (football twice a week and the gym) but I'm hoping this gets me properly fit. I'll be cycling 20+ miles 4 days a week hopefully, so it *should* work :)

    @sport I'll think about it ;)

That reminds me, at the weekend I saw someone riding one of these on a busy road in Brighton: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZs-cc2YTas&feature=related
    It looked ridiculous!

Fatchris, if you need any help with your training let me know. I ride in the French Alps every year and this year I'm competing on the 206km Wales Dragon and the Le Marmotte in france, in June and July.

Note: I am open to requests, provided certain levels of donation are reached :)

The price goes up as the humiliation increases, obviously!

I picked up my road bike this week (Specialized Secteur) and tomorrow will be doing my first long-distance ride for years. Hopefully I'll survive :)

If anyone else could donate, you'd be doing me a massive favour (and helping Amnesty!) as the deadline for 80% of the total is next month, so I'm panicking slightly :)

    Thanks again!

@TechnoHippy Haha! I might set a target and date (maybe 800 by March 1st?) and if I reach it, then I'll do something humiliating. Anyway, thanks loads for the donation. You forum guys are awesome - much better than my real family!! :)

    Hello again!

I've got to reach 80% of the deadline before I go away next week, otherwise my place on the ride might be at risk :(

So if there are any more of you who could spare a bit of money for charity, I'd be massively grateful.

Thanks in advance, you lovely gorgeous people!
