According to GAMESTM readers and published in issue 118

    15. Gameboy
    14. NES
    13. ZX Spectrum
    12. Commodore 64
    11. Gamecube
    10. PC
    9. Amiga
    8. Playstation 3
    7. Dreamcast
    6. Mega Drive
    5. Nintendo 64
    4. Playstation
    3. Playstation 2
    2. Super NES
    1. Xbox 360

The non-appearance of Wii and DS as two of the biggest selling consoles of all time surprised me slightly.

I think its well established by now that 99% of people who bought a Wii regret the purchase, so its not that surprising.

Agree with the top 5 - not the order but certainly the consoles

Nice to see the Amiga getting some love.

    Awesome machine.

N64 I don't agree with. It only had three games didn't it? Zelda, Mario and Goldeneye.

PS3 is a little high, but other than that a pretty good list.

I'd place the Gamecube higher than the PS3 personally, and the Dreamcast higher than the mega drive.

I'd have had Amiga in the top 5, but other than that spot on.

PC is weird. In the 95 - 2005 period it was the best machine ever. But after 2005 consoles kind of caught up.

PS3 should be in the top 2-3, I'd say. Awesome machine, with possibly the strongest line-up of exclusives in history.

Xbox shouldn't be at number 1 my choice:
    1. Ps1
    2.snes
    3. Ps2
    4. Ds
    5.megadrive

Dont kid yourself, Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, hed eat you and everyone you care about!

I don't agree with it, the fact he has included C64, spectrum and the positioning, and the inclusion of PC.. the whole thing is revolting and obviously intended to be controversial.

I don't see how. It's the outcome of a reader survey.

And you don't think the PC should be on there? The platform that played host to Doom, Dune II, Civilization, Monkey Island, Half-Life, etc?

I still own 11 of those.

What a fucking hoarder I am.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

No DS at all? PC down at number 10?

    Very strange list.

Don't shoot the messenger. This is the results of a poll in a magazine. Presumably at some point they might bother to put it on the Games TM website as well

According to the magazine, the Gameboy garnered 26.41% of all votes for handheld consoles, whilst the DS got 26.17%. So there can't have been much in it.

I think handhelds in general are very poorly represented in this list.
    But that's just me.

    @Cowell

Perhaps you should add in the voting breakdowns, as given in the magazine?

Bit of a strange list; 'Amiga'? Which one exactly?

And personally I'd put PS2 and Snes ahead of Xbox.
