They panic more on classic and impossible. Tried impossible and 2 of my squad panicked after the first soldier was wounded

I’ve had a couple of panics so far, but I think it’s quite a good mechanic. Makes things more human.

First was when my medic got killed in his prime. This caused my sniper to freak out try and shoot the alien but get the guy camped in front of him instead, who then also freaked out and fired back where the shot came from gunning the sniper in the chest.

Both thankfully just survived but were gravely injured.

The other one was last night when I took a rookie out on a “moderate” mission and he caught a glancing blow and started hyperventilating and refused to move next time round. Unfortunately he refused to move from the cover of a burning car. Which then exploded. Along with him.

None of my hardened veterans have panicked of late, so I’m guessing they’ve improved.

I certainly remember binning the low psychic ability guys. Quite annoying when they had good stat's in another area.

Just raided first shot down UFO

Not good, lost acid snake, Agparrot and nelson Mandela who went on a ruthless killing spree

Venatio, well he went toe to toe with the ships captain for 2 rounds. Literally standing next to each other nothing between them and he got the kill

So, after starting my Ironman Impossible playthrough, I died. Horribly.

    On the first mission.

    5 times.

    ...

    Think I'm a bit rusty.

It'll be Normal for my first run-through, definitely. Perhaps on Ironman, just to give my decisions some weight.

Ironman is nailed on. Although I was thinking big bollocks Classic, and that will be where I start, I might drop to Normal depending on how it goes.

(I HATE losing squaddies as well, so this'll be ... fun)

I tried that, just brutal from the start. Whole squad panicked after the first causality. Dropped it down to classic ironman

Just lost Ghandi to a thin man who dropped through a skylight, squad was on overwatch but missed him.

Decided I'm going to stick with my Classic/Ironman game. Things might be going to shit at the moment but it will only make victory all the more sweeter.

I have spent the day thinking about what I should call my female soldiers though. All the lads have been named after Rovers Players...hhhmmmmm...

    Ghandii would be better.

EDITED: Caught in the same spelling trap, nuts.

    @LeoliansBro

Yup my spelling is crap :) was going to use his first name as well. Then realised he won't be alive long enough for me to care about his first name

Still in much distress over whether to start on Classic Ironman or Normal Ironman (#firstworldproblems)... Do you feel like you can make mistakes (get an entire veteran squad KIA'd, fuck up a bit on the Geoscape) and still win, or is it more like a case of "might as well restart now" on Classic Ironman?

I'd hate to breeze through on Normal Ironman, but OTOH the game still needs to be *fun* and allow you to experiment/screw up occasionally.

First mission without casualties :) tried to capture sectoid twice and it failed both times.

Emma Thompson is an alien killing machine. 2 missions and 6 kills. The use of the missile launcher inside the shop was a stylish display of brute force

@phAge You can always start on classic and dial the difficulty back (which seems more appropriate than the other way round, where you will have gained advantages from the lower difficulty). Personally, I found that I died too often on classic without it being really my fault. There's more of a direct cause->effect based on my actions on normal for me, at least for now.

Besides, if I beat it on normal, I'll replay it on classic, anyway. I am not in a rush with this game. :)

I find normal ironman plenty challenging, especially with all the strategic mistakes you'll make at the beginning in regards to research, revenue management, base building. I've also had my squad wiped out twice, but I've persisted with the game.

Raising your squad size and investing in armour upgrades seems really important, and something I completely overlooked early on.

I trust my monthly reports though, and the council is still giving me a passing grade, even though I've lost a couple countries.

I believe it was Norbert Galaxians and Gerald Space Invaders that just got promoted.
