I am so close to doing that myself. Just need some more positive reinforcement. :) Let me know how it went... You're my fall guy. "He made me do it Guv, honest!".

Just pulled of a "Very Difficult" mission with no casualties. So satisfying, my squads looking quite meaty now.

Once your unit is spotted can he/she hide again?

yeah i was reluctant to vpn as i hadnt done it before but it worked just fine and i played it for a good few hours today. Anyone know the answer to my question from the previous page? do similar base facilites get the adjoining bonus if they are vertically adjacent or is it just horizontal? Its been pretty fun so far. still havnt got the courage to get close enough to arc an alien yet though.

So... Classic Ironman, vanilla Classic or Normal Ironman for first playthrough?

I'm leaning towards Classic Ironman, but I'm afraid that the (as I understand it) "lose one complete veteran squad and you might as well start over"-mechanic of that difficulty will be a bit *too* hardcore in the end.

Anyone seen any mention of recommended difficulty setting in the reviews?

    @phAge

The makers are saying classic ironman is the true difficulty level. Could try on normal first just to get yourself familiar with the game

@phAge Sounds like you might want to play on Easy, with no Ironman.

    ;)

General noise has been 'play Normal to get used to the systems' and 'play Classic for a difficult challenge'. Ironman probably won't have too much of an effect on Normal as by all accounts you don't often actually lose people, but that it is a gamechanger for Classic, where the attrition rate is higher.

I guess it depends on whether you can bear to actually lose the game entirely and have to start over. I'm happy with losing and making mistakes and failing repeatedly, but then I'm planning to spend ages playing it, so I'm not reluctant to have to start over and over. So, Classic Ironman for me.

Well, I played the original to bits (even completed it once or twice), so I don't mind a couple of visits from Rapebear - it's just that if you can indeed Game Over yourself just by losing a single ranked-up squad in one mission, I fear that'll suck some of the fun out of the tactical missions.

And I don't think there even *is* an Easy setting... :p

Poor demo, should give you a full mission. First mission is hold hand, second is a walk in the park.
Will get it soon as know will be great but bad demo.

    I'm going Classic Ironman.

I don't want to win and see everything first time. I want to earn it.

Quick qeustion to those playing with a contoller. How do you exit the action view. Basically, I hit right trigger to make a shot but then decide I don't like the odds. How do I change my mind and then go back so I can move my dude?

I've hit every button (or at least I think I have) but I'm getting no joy!

A warning to ironmen, rookies get chewed up and spat out after the first few missions. Either your core squad can never die or you have to cycle in rookies to level them a bit. Just lost Postman Pat, 9 missions in. Taking a break to absorb my loss.

Love it so far, it's just like the old days *wipes away tear*

Normal feels like the right difficulty for me, there's still an ever-present threat of it all going pearshaped without it being too punishing.

A map is like comparing velocity and speed.

Ok, I'll have to be honest to myself here - classic mode is too hard for me. Played the first two non-scripted missions, and lost 5 men. That's with reloading a couple of times, too.

I'm playing on regular as this is my first ever X-COM and I'm pretty much losing a team member every mission. I feel like I'm being careful and thinking things through but when things go wrong, they go badly wrong.

    Am really enjoying it though.
