    @shamblemonkee How does Spotflux work Shambles? I've installed it an it seems to be working fine, but Steam is still saying xcom will unlock in 2 days and 14 hours? Is there somewhere I need to tell it to redirect me to the the US?

    @KoS hmm, should be that youjust run spotflux, load steam - spotflux will have hidden your location and then XCOM should just start unlocking.

    you can choose your location from within steam but you shouldnt need to do that.

    I have a few questions about aspects of gameplay that after my initial demo play arose:
    What is Overwatch? The move seemed to serve as just a 'smart' way to skip your turn.

    Also, is engagement of aliens organic, to where you can move and then shoot as part of a single action, where your movement leaves you a clear shot to do so, or does that situation (trying to surprise the alien) just leave you out of cover, so Aliens get their attack in? I ask, because the scripted part of the tutorial showed the surviving squad member move in to neutralise the threat; and, watching it play out I expected that one to have made a fatal mistake in that move.

    Broadly, is there any reactionary action that takes effect during the enemy's turn?

    That's what overwatch is for, if they see an enemy during the alien turn they'll open fire.

    That's not very reactionary, though. You're just telling your soldier to keep alert, in case something occurs to prompt them in to action. I'm asking more whether your moves can cause consequence in your turn, so for example, on your same turn the aliens can act?

    bonus! Idle Thumbs 3 Moves Ahead podcast with Lead Designer of the game - lots of talk about the way the game's built, the development process, decisions made, and feedback from the hosts' experiences with the game.

    @StarchildHypocrethes

    @Shambles

    Thanks guys, I forgot to close down steam before I connected to Spotflux.

    Just tried it now and it seems to work fine.

    Going to be downloading the arse off it when I get home! (Shame I wont get chance to play it until tomorrow though!)

    heh yeah fairly hefty at 13gb.

    @Mach Like starchild says the enemy can also enact Overwatch to take shots at your solders if you expose them during movement on your turn.

    And likewise soldiers youve put in overwatch will do the same during the alien turn.

    you cant though manually react.

    Whilst I don't, haha, hate any of you individually for playing this already, collectively you are all bunch of toilet-drinkers! It isn't fair, waah-waah etc.

    I've almost been dissuaded from playing Classic/Ironman, especially after that thing on Game Informer about how it's a bridging difficulty to the Impossible mode, but I think I'm going to hold strong and go for the Classic/Ironman combo, even though it would probably be more sensible to get a feel for the new mechanics on some more forgiving settings.

    I'm probably just a glutton for punishment.

    If I run steam on multiple PCs and do the naughty unlocking thing on one, when I log on to the other PC is it going to screw things up?

    Mehhh, why can't I just wait?

    i'm determined to stick with Classic, and probably Ironman as i lik ethe idea of having to live with the results of my actions, even if it means losing

    I've been charged for it, so I hope it gets posted today.

    Normal / Ironman I think. Don't want to go into classic and get frustrated.

    I think I must have had my mind on Frozen Synapse-esque situations, but that doesn't sound the way it is. That's ok. I didn't realise the aliens could also enact overwatch!

    XCOM and Forza Horizon demos in the same day, Live's servers are going to be busy.

    edit: hopefully Firaxis have been a little better at trimming the console demo, having 3 gig of movies that were mostly unused made the Steam one rather stupidly big.

    It's 1.51Gb, the LIVE demo.

    I've queued it up on xbox.com, and now need to find a way to surreptitiously turn on the xbox without Mrs parrot noticing.
