    An aesthetic detail that has always annoyed me is that the weapons differ in size between men and women, I think it's just plain weird. Just give both of them the same size. It's not a pair of socks, it doesn't come in different sizes.

    I believe EXALT just mirror what you have. If you have laser rifles, they will have laser rifles. And once you've beaten them, you'll just have an EXALT variant to equip.
    Played my first EXALT mission last night. I'd already been using Laser weapons for a while (3-4 missions at least) but their gear was all standard Assault Rifles etc with bullets. Kinda glad too, as not only were there loads of them, but the thought of getting a Rocket to the face or Sniped from afar was worrying me greatly and put me right on edge for the whole mission!

    In my experience they do not seem to have squadsight, if they did the Exalt missions would be a total nightmare. So far I have only had large problems on one of them but they are an interesting challenge and a very different idea to the main alien invasions. I rather like the addition.

    You are a factory of sadness.

    Definitely, I particularly like the stealth units (can't remember their name) as it adds a completely new dynamic whenever they appear. The alien base has changed too, which was refreshing.

    Run into my first ever game breaking bug on XCOM. Tried to fly to an abduction in the skyranger, got a call for landed UFO, now I can't continue with either.

    6 troops now. I have been very lucky with deaths: some catastrophic injuries, but only a few rookie deaths.

    @El_MUERkO

    There is usually 20 meld in 2 containers (10 meld each) on most missions. First mission gets you 20 then when you research it you get a bonus 40meld

    Lost a Major last night. Got pretty beaten up by a Mechtoid (first one I'd come across so didn't know what to expect). Pulled the almost dead trooper back to heal - where she was ambushed by one of them strangly Things and choked to death in a single turn. Swines.

    I encountered a Mechtoid thingy with a squad of 4 - a MEC, a sniper and two rookies.

    Yeah, those rookies didn't last.

    Still don't have Enemy Within, but been replaying EU in Classic Ironman. Some extremely hairy moments. There's a map that funnels you into a construction site, the entrance of which I handled badly, 3 of my 6 man squad went down in one move, inlcuding the two medics.

    Fortunately the enemy were also clumped up, so some careful use of rockets and a semi-suicidal Assault run-and-gun cleared the area before my team could bleed out.

    Still debating whether or not to continue playing EU or wait until I get EW.

    @RedSparrows

    Destroyed my first Sectoid mech thingy, felt proud of my MEC then Flying disc popped and one shot killed Mr MEC

    Also I'm enjoying the new maps, nice to have some variation

    I am pleased to say the Mecs don't make it easy, really. In fact I don't like their lack of cover and their crap mobility. I am sure once I get them some better guns they'll improve, just like normal soldiers. Reloading all the time gets old.

    On the other hand, the flamethrower is amazingly useful.

    @RedSparrows

    Can upgrade mini gun to a better weapon, later perk gives option of more ammo that can be carried, grenade launcher is awesome, choosing the power glove lets your mech have more movement squares. Also 2 more different types of mech plus different starting bonuses depending which class human you chop up and feed to the mech making machine. Poor bastards

    Flamethrower is great, yeah. Though not as great as my Norwegian Sniper Colonel with 120 Aim, three medpacks and a grenade, ability to run and shoot in one turn, amazing mobility due to extra movement and spider-armour. Basically, if I need something dead, Arne is the bloke to call.

    Heh, I did that one last night. Managed to escape with the whole squad on the very last turn - after killing about 20 of 'em!!!

    I've just gone back to EU on the basis that I last played it in June and can't justify EW to myself without putting a decent amount of hours into the first release.

    I started a new NI game (normal, because I'm a pussy and still a bit of a newbie) and have been immediately sucked right back in. If an alcoholic constantly struggles with addiction even in sobriety, I think I might have a XCOM addiction, because I've been thinking about it every day since I last played in June.

    This time, I've taken the libery of renaming the squad, not to people I know but to my labels of squad roles, eg. Hv Attack, Hv Suppress, As Dodge, Sn Lone, Sn Scout etc, with ability trees that are planned out for each type jotted down on a notepad. That means if I lose any of them, I won't hurt as much and can quickly rename and replace with a reserve.

    I'm still massively yearning for a Vita port, which I know deep down will never happen. My next big hope is that the PS4 will get a port of the EW pack that I can remote play, in which case it would be a system seller for me.

    @Dodgymat I ended up killing thirty-two not realising that they would just keep coming. Once I figured it out it was too late. Four squad members down, two very experienced. But I did escape… just.

    Heh. I sent my MEC to activate the beacon with the rest of the team hanging back - soon as shit hit the fan I just legged it with the MEC while the snipers and heavies put down a load of covering fire.

    Very "... lay down a suppressing fire with the incinerators and fall back by squads to the APC" - only with everyone back home in time for supper.

    First time I did that mission on release day and no idea that anything like that would happen. Sorry to say I had my LT Gorman "er,er,er " freezing moment
