Who gave it a 7? Or is that a lie?

The facial animation and rendering really stands out as unconvincing in this. I'm sure it was better in the previous games, but this is well on the wrong side of the uncanny valley - waxwork puppets, all smooth skin and jerky, unconvincing lip-sync and expressions.

    8/10 in Edge. Splendid.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Reading the in-game encyclopaedia, it explains Eagle Vision as being an inherited genetic trait from the first civilisation. I don't recall this being explained before?

Two hours in, and I'm still playing this random bloke. Connor has yet to appear.

Is this some sort of MGS2-style bait and switch?

Experienced more glitches too - such as the game not recognising when I had fulfilled the mission objective, requiring a reload to the last checkpoint.

Not the best first impressions in the world.

Er, so the Season Pass is showing up as free on the XBL Marketplace.

    I wouldn't get excited though, won't download.

Showed up as 2400 points when I saw it earlier, though that was from within the game rather than the Xbox dash.

Put a good 5 hours in to this now and loving it. The prologue as long as it is, is good fun and makes the first sequence as Conor pretty damn special. The frontier is well realised and Boston feels truly alive unlike the past games dwellings. It has gripped me all evening which doesn't happen often these days with games. Had to tear myself away and itching to get back but sleep calls.

Typical. Just read the EG review. Lots of negatives and reads like a 7 but when I get to the bottom 9!? Big budget bias? Or does the reviewer only care for length?

In EG's defence, I think any review of a high-profile release was going to inevitably be placed alongside the recent controversy if it scored highly (and everyone has their own interpretation of what is a "9" or whatever).

That said, there does seem to be a disparity between a lot of the points made in the review and the final score. The review mentions that bugs are rife, the ending is awful, the opening of the game is long-winded and dull and suggests that the series has lost focus by replacing single-minded vision with breadth of scope.

If anything it convinced me to simply ignore the score at the end of any review I read from now on as if it wasn't there in the first place.

Sick of the prologue. Over two hours now and still don't feel like I'm playing the actual game. Feels rather slow and cumbersome.

I warned people the prologue was boring as Hell but they didnt believe me!

Still, I have just finally got through it and am at last playing as Conor. Oh hang on, he's still only 16! That means more prologue left to go! Gnnnngh.....

4 hours, still playing as this other bloke. It's a testament to how dull the opening is that I can't even remember his name. I think it's Nathan, but I'm probably wrong.

How can you possibly not know his name if you're paying attention in any form to the game? It's mentioned every time he meets a new character.

It just hasn't grabbed me. Cutscene segues into cutscene, characters are disposed of as soon as they are introduced and no character has stood out to me so far as being memorable. I think there is also a possibility that, given the way Ubi hyped up Connor and his importance in all the pre-release publicity, I am unconsciously not paying close attention to anything that doesn't involve him.

Where's all this deformable snow that previews have spoken about? Running about in Boston, I'm not even leaving footprint decals, let alone shifting the snow about.

EDIT: To answer my own question, leaving the boundaries of Boston and wandering around the Frontier, suddenly the snow IS responding to my movements (in a limited way). The disparity between the two sets of environments suggests to me that maybe there are technical reasons to blame here?

3 odd hours for me, Liked the crossing to Boston but could do with it getting a move on now. Played several of the 2 types of the board games however. Oh and killed 20 odd redcoats I think :)

The prologus is awful. Once you actually start playing as Connor the game really does pick up. (Takes a really long time though)

The prologue is nowhere near as bad as people are making out. It's only that people know that it isn't the lead character. It sets the scene perfectly for the rest of the game. Playing as young Connor is justified by it and introduced really well. I'm still playing as 16 year Connor now and can't get enough. When a game has you thinking about it when your not playing you know it's good. If it only gets better this is potential game of the year so far for me.
