    For the first time in 10 years, on boxing day, I decided to venture to M&S this morning to grab a pair of jeans, only because I have some vouchers and a Brent Cross gift card.

    - Lasted 30 mins
    - Couldn't find the pair I wanted
    - Bought a pack of gum
    - Left

    Don't think I'll be doing that again. Felt like we were one pashmina away from a riot.

    Anyone else going to venture out today?

    Nothing really open here in Adelaide, luckily there was a Banner Hardware open so I could get some screws to finish of the ELC dolls-house for my daughter that came without them, and some batteries for the various toys that needed them for my son.

    I've turned off all the avatars and crap, so don't expect me to be impressed by yours.

    Nope, never done that. Sounds like the Next sale though, where they take a perfectly well sorted shop and mix up all the styles and sizes so you have to search for anything you want, and then only get a measly percentage off.

    So I won't be going to the sales. I've spent more than enough money already. But I have run out of wrapping paper, which should be nice and cheap next month.

    Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

    luckily, newcastle city centre's main shopping centre Eldon Square is closed on boxing day
    we dont get the madness of people wanting to buy the crap they couldnt sell till tomorrow.
    boxing day is usually a day to visit the people you didnt get the time to visit yesterday for most people....

    think of the poor people who work in retail... working all the way up to xmas eve, to only be off 1 day (which isnt really a day off with all the work entailed for cooking the big meal and entertaining that goes on), then back to work on boxing day.

    I've got to go and return Skyrim to Game later on as the product code has been peeled off the case. Not looking forward to it.

    Luckily the WH Smith's voucher I got for Christmas can be redeemed online so I have no reason to venture out into the madness today.

    Yeah, the M&S voucher couldn't be used online, hence why I bought the gum with the voucher. Got the change back in the form of a Gift Card which I can use online :-D

    Usually crap stuff on sale anyway. Last years dregs as well. Sizes not even close. Some gems in there I suppose with a tame discount but who can be arsed.

    People who go out shopping in the sales on Boxing Day like it's the event of the year or something are incredibly sad. Have a bloody lie-in and then get pissed FFS.

    Stephens day sales can crawl back into the hole they came out of add far as I'm concerned. keep the bloody shops closed one extra day FFS.

    My parents bought a 37" TV on high st... the boxing day price cut bought the price in line with online prices.

    Meh, for a lot of people in Britain christmas isn't important and for others who may not have much money the sales can be a time to pick up a bargain that they couldn't previously afford.

    I saw an ad for temp work with Next on Princes Street. It said 'Next plc are committed to paying the national minimum wage.'

    I thought that was awfully good of them.

    There's no good reason why anyone has to go shopping on Boxing Day. It would make no difference if the sales started the day after.

    Fuck pressured, how about contracted? This is my first year not working boxing day (got out of retail about 8 months back) and it's a genuine pleasure being able to sleep the hangover off. To all those in retail today, I salute you.

    Edit:Do you feel the need to go out for the boxing day sales? I have now set up a convenient vat of acid that you can jump into to save yourself the trouble. For incentive, you can think about how you're improving the human race with your death while you cue up.

    I doubt it was over the Nikes, although the recent re-release of the Air Jordans over in the US did require police intervention.
