GW2 is still doing well isn't it?

MMO's often run their cycle and close. What we're seeing is a change to free to play is all?

Yeah but Free To Play is utter shite.

Bitty content that some people have while others don't because group A paid and group B didn't.

That's not free to play , that's free to try. If you actually want to play the fucking game you still have to pay.

Fuck this shit. Either you have a sub and full content or no sub and still full content or I'm not touching your game.

The market isn't in decline, people still want mmo's, they just get bored very easily.

They've had their day in so much as studios can't afford the start up costs nor want the financial risks for a fickle audience.

It's kinda sad to a degree...

I don't know about TSW, but Guild Wars 2 has a decent model. The crap on the in-game store amounts to vanity items and junk you wouldn't miss.

Well I've done 30 missions in TSW now and still in the starting area. The game is pretty cool and a bit different from the standard mmo. I like how my appearance isn't tied into my clothing but into trinkets so I can at least look consistent in the world. The real world setting mixed with the occult is an interesting look and I'm looking forward to finding out more about the world.

The quests are a mixed bag with the straight out combat ones typically being the dull kill x of this but the investigation type ones are cool and its great to see a mmo with a puzzle element to them. The combat is a bit lacking at the moment but its functional and it seems easy enough to switch styles around. Think I'm essentially a dps with my pistol/sword combo.

The graphics in teh most part are pretty good although my system does start to strugle when there is a lot going on so mite switch a few things down a little. The voice acting is pretty good on average but a lack of subtitles during cutscenes is annoying me a little.

Also the community seem to be ok if a little quiet at times. I've asked for help a few times and had friendly responses back fairly quick.

One more issue is that it seems every quest is repeatable so I hope it indicates if you've done it already as I can see myself forgetting what I've done if I take a break from the game.

Am glad i only paid eight quid for this. Played 4 hrs yesterday, and it felt clunky and pretty ham-fisted. I think MMOs just aren't for me.

maybe one will come along one day that will grab you. Most MMOs tend to be a bit clunky. Think its a bi-product of how they are designed.

:o how did I let this game past by me at launch its pretty cool. Ok it has clunky mmorpg stuff but the investigation puzzles are awesome. The game expects you to actually investigate things...like using google and external websites from the game. Very cool.

...and people say it doesn't bring anything new to the genre. Daft huh?

The difference is in the Secret World you're using the net to help solve the puzzle and not just finding where out where to go next. For example one puzzle has you looking up sheet music online to find the missing notes for a puzzle or looking up bible passages to work out a keycode

Yeah, the closest thing it reminds me of, if anyone ever played it, is In Memoriam (in that regard, not anything else)

Heh. Same server, different faction (I'm Templar). Still, 3 character slots so will have to roll an alt on the others at some point.

Out of interest mate, what build are you going with at the moment? I've gone for Pistols and Blood Magic. Gives me a good balance between DPS and healing, with a nice range of DOTs, buffs and debuffs.

I'm actually really surprised by how well judged the mix-and-match skill system is, it seems no matter what you go for your two skills play off each other in some way.

    @darkmorgado

I'm a sword pistol bad ass mofo :D I think I'll do some nice dps when I get better gear and skillls.

I'm still enjoying the game. Some of the investigation quests are a bit too difficult for my tiny brain. Also yay the myan event is finished

Heh, the mayan thing was a complete pain in the arse, zombies spawning in thin air, even in safe areas. Urgh.

The free 1200 ponts i got for completing 30 quests was very quickly spent on a douple AP point booster which was very nice indeed. And even though we didn't complete it, I got some very nice pistols from the Polaris dungeon.

I dont mind the investigation missions so much, though some of the clues are on the wrong side of obtuse. More annoying are the bloody stealth missions, which are just awful.

Loving it so far, its been years since I've played an mmo that has grabbed me like this.

Yup Mayans were a pain in the bum I would be using an aoe ability then suddenly one would pop up and I would get splatted.

Good call on the boost I should of went for that instead of a leather coat and punk boots.

Am I right in remembering that one of the biggest complaints about the game at launch was a lack of content?

Utter nonsense. I've playes over 60 hours already and have only just started the second zone...

It was going cheap on Steam over Christmas. Failing that:

    Amazon: 22.99

    Play.com: 22.99

    Shopto direct download: 24.85

@darkmorgado i dont remember any of those accusations, more that the gun combat didn't feel great and movement felt a little clunky. and also that the skills and stats were a little unclear and unfocused

Anyone playing on Daemon server btw? Could do with joining a Cabal...

    @shamblemonkee

The article yesterday (I think) on the front page contained a couple of comments from people complaining about lack of content. I might well be wrong, but right now I don't have the inclination to trawl through a load of archived reviews on metacritic to check :)

heh, well if you're enjoying it what's it matter - thats the main thing right?

i've actually stopped reading around on games so much because i found they were detracting from my enjoyment sometimes.

Erm, you will ALWAYS be a subscriber. "Normal Subscriber" is the name given to someone who doesn't pay a monthly fee. Then you have "Master" and "Grand Master" subs.
