My local independent LEGO retailer is going out of business (LEGO opened an official store and I think it fucked him over by being cheaper) and is slashing his prices from tomorrow until his final day next week.

There isn't a huge amount that I'd be looking to pick up but I'm suddenly tempted by the Technic 24 hours race car and Merc AROCS if I can get them both at about 50% off.
Found out today that all his Technic is 40% off. I might just have to...
    Do it!

So what's the deal with selling Lego sets?

Do you need to have kept all the bags or is the box, bricks and instructions good enough?

I have Slave 9, Tumbler and Ewok Village I'd be willing to let go.

    Any advice much appreciated.

    @Blakester

    Here's what to do.

Break it all apart into individual pieces.

Then as you remake it, mark each piece with a different coloured sticker depending on what bag the instructions say it came from.

Then once you're finished, break it all apart and bag it up into different zippy bags based on the colour.

Then rebuild it again to make sure you didn't make any mistakes.

Then put the pieces back into the zippy bags, removing the stickers as you go.

@Blakester if you mean Slave 1 (the UCS one) I could be tempted....

Edit: Box, Bricks and instructions are fine. Provided it has all of the bricks (obviously!) and the instructions are in good condition...

I have just returned from Lego Land and it was all a bit of an expensive mixed bag to be honest. The Star Wars exhibition while a little too much Clone wars stuff for my liking was brilliant, the dioramas were excellent in particular the original trilogy stuff was outstanding with an absolutely stunning monster Death Star model that defied belief.

A few of the rides were out of service and a lot of construction taking place for new stuff later in the year, fair enough, but the original Lego World is sadly looking the worse for wear with a lot of faded buildings, broken and missing pieces, and it must be old because in the French section it had looking rather sorry for themselves Citroen SM's, shame as the model builds are excellent but are in dire need of restoration.

I thought the Lego shop was not all that, offering nothing that I could not find elsewhere probably cheaper as well.

All in all with the wife and our two sons aged 5 and 10 including parking, entry with a discount off the back of a cereal box a four poor quality hotdogs, three ice creams, two bottles of water, and some Lego related items from the shop I came away nearly two hundred quid worse off.

My sons had a good time, but no better than other attractions we have visited that were a lot cheaper.

    Doubt we will go again.

For my 50th, we went to Nathan Sawaya's 'The Art Of The Brick : DC Super Heroes' exhibition on the South Bank. As someone who's not a huge comic book fan, I'd say I didn't enjoy it as much as the original AOTB, simply because for much of the time, I didn't know what I was looking at. Batman, Superman etc I'm fine with, but some of the more obscure ones passed me by.

I was also a bit surprised, given how many characters DC must have to choose from, just how much repetition there was, particularly of The Flash, but then Sawaya did say that that's the character he most identifies with.

Anyway, it was an interesting couple of hours - if you can go in the week, do, it was very quiet at 10am on a Monday. Photography is encouraged, but because of the low lighting, I'd say take a tripod, I reckon you'd be ok.

Here are a few photos if anyone's interested.

    Nice, boo.

I really enjoyed the original AotB and I'd love to see this one but I'm not in the UK until the summer. I really like the mosaic comic recreations, the one colour figures with standout logos and the cubed versions. Some other really nice pieces too.

    Thanks for the photos!

How much are you after for it? I don't want to make an insultingly low-ball offer, so I'd rather you give me an idea of what you'd let it go for...

Wow, this Y-Wing looks much more detailed than either the TIE or X-Wing from the same size bracket.

Of course, a lot more unique pieces too. Which is kind of cheating in the context of Lego, I guess. Also a load of very small pieces which made it a bit of a pain to assemble. But the result is worth it imho.

I'm going down to the closing store today - it's his last day of business. Might be slim pickings, might be bargains galore...

I wasn't sure about the snowspeeder until I saw the video and realised how big it is.
Stickers on the canopy though? Noooo.

I'm surprised, you'd have thought for premium sets they'd have done printed bricks.

While I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to stickers, I'm not as bad as some.

I was standing in the Lego store in cardiff a few weekends ago and a boy was asking his father for a Star Wars kit.

"That's not real LEGO," came the reply "...too many fancy parts".

    @Derblington

Actually having watched the video, i'm not so sure now.

it lacks the impact of the red 5 xwing or slave 1 or ucs tie, especially for the same price IMO.

I really like the snowspeeder design and UCS sets in general so I'm all in. There's very few sets I'm interested this year atm, so this and the other rumoured UCS sets (Millennium Falcon and BB-8) will be sure buys for me.

Plus, I already have Red 5, Slave 1, TIE fighter, B Wing, R2-D2 and the sandcrawler so there're no alternative purchases available :)

I love that Snowspeeder, possibly my fave ship in the SW universe. As long as its not stupidly expensive, I'll pick it up.
