What would you people in the know recommend if I'm after a good original Star Wars model to grab for a nice reasonable price?

@funkyshaker For such an epic instruction manual, it's not printed very well, so backtracking because of black/dark grey confusionis a common issue. Are you going to display it? It's mahoosive, and an awkward shape to put on a shelf :)

@Short-Round I'm hoping to display it with the others I have but can see it is going to be big. When I pulled out the instruction manual I was taken aback!

My previous large build was R2-D2 but that is nothing on this.

Do you have any other SW pieces?

@L_Franko You mean original trilogy? If so, the X-Wing is a mainstay in the Lego line up, gets updated every few years, so is often on a discount. The curent one could be had for around 30 before Christmas.

The Tie Fighter is a great model as well and it's often on sale, in the US at least.

The Tarooine Skiff is also cool, cheap and has some great mini figs including Boba Fett.

Rights. It'll be MEGA BLOCKS if anything.

LEGO Mass Effect would be amazing.

@funkyshaker Star Wars isn't my theme Nothing against the films, just the sets do nothing for me. I have R2-D2, the latest Anakin & Sebulba's Podracers, Death Star, some Clone Wars Turbo Tank I liked the colours of and 10212 Imperial Shuttle, which I've never found the enthusiasm to build :/ Looking forward to picking up the new 10233 Horizon Express this week.

Mega blocks is MEGA GAY. I would spend lots of money on a proper Lego enterprise B.

I was wrong, it's an old Alien Conquest set. Getting my themes confused.

The DK book on LEGO is quite good, by the way ;)

@boo it's a full on language so there really are no limitations. Plus, you build whatever you want so that is an extra limitless dimension.

The only problem is that it can be somewhat overwhelming. That and the fact that you have to be a decent mechanical engineer.

They really are full on magical.

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

@funkyshaker Whereabouts are you dude? You like the Star Wars theme, Tesco have got some bargains at the mo, including the grossly over priced at rrp Jabba's Palace for 59 (also have Batcaves for 35, Epic Dragon Battle for 45, Helm's Deep at 50, Vampyre Castle at 40 etc...). These deals don't seem to have hit London though, otherwise I'd grab you one.

Check out the Ultra Sonic Raider from the current Ninjago range. Some afol's think it's hideous, I got it because I like the colour scheme (it's the only set so far with the tank tread element in brown, and windscreen pieces in brown tint, which remind me of Ray-Ban driving lenses). I like the set anyway :)

@Short-Round I'm in West Sussex. Those prices are excellent - I will pop down to our local superstore and see if they have any. Managed to get Jabba's Palace for 80 which I thought was ok but I do like the Vampyre Castle.

@ZuluHero It looks even better in the flesh, and has some nice parts if you're a builder :) The snake minifigs from last years Ninjago range are some of the best minifigs Lego has ever made as well.

@funkyshaker Vampyre Castle is great, but not the most interesting build, as it uses a lot of big bespoke parts like 'burp' pieces, rather than brick building. I'd recommend Helm's Deep and Batcave for those prices though, even just as parts packs, as they're both good value even at rrp (and Helm's Deep is an all-brick build, so you'll learn some interesting techniques if you want to make your own castles). Sadly I think the brickset and hukd scum will have hoovered all these deals up by now.

I do like the mining stuff. Shame it's so overpriced. Will get some when it goes on sale.

Last January I picked up this from the official Lego store for 8 (eight). Kept it in the garage until Christmas day.
