With all the "Best Game of 2011" threads, I thought I'd create my own!

A simple question really, what is the best "old" game you have played this year? It can either be the original game, a HD remake, or a re-release on another platform.

For me, it has to be the 1997 (I think) PC game The Last Express on GOG. A thoroughly amazing concept, although it does have it's faults.

I downloaded Chrono Trigger on the Wii. It was good but it didn't really drag me in, possibly because I don't really like playing on the Wii...

For HD remakes, Beyond Good and Evil was a joy to play. It is only let down by slightly dull combat, and a horrible camera which goes up it's own arse sometimes. Still, it feels as modern as most current adventure games, and I enjoyed it a lot more than Enslaved.

Special mention goes to X-Men Arcade, just for being the worst game I've ever played on my Xbox! I have to mention this in every post I make

I usually play quite a lot of old pc games but havent had much time this year. I got the ambassador games and a couple of old gameboy games on the 3ds, the ones I enjoyed most were zelda: links awakening and donkey kong 94

Well, I'm currently playing Metroid Zero Mission GBA on a Archos 70 tablet with a Wii controller. In short, it's bloody amazing.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Also recently started Beyond Good and Evil HD. Loved it first time round.

    Tower Defence Games.
Plants vs Zombies (my 'Farmville'), Defence Grid just recently and plenty of Pixeljunk Monsters.
Also, a bit of Recettear, although I haven't got properly into it.

Probably the best though, is Pikmin 2 on the old Gamecube. Lost my old savecard, so -oh dear- started from scratch. Proper joy.

I just got a decent gaming PC in the last year so have been catching up on some older RPGs. Morrowind GOTY I love to pieces and have been playing off and on all year. Also been getting into Planescape:Torment, and while I'm not a fan of the isometric style (plus the melee combat is rugged to say the least) the world building/storytelling aspects live up to all the glowing reviews. Eh, cutter?

Whoa onimusha was awesome. Completely forgot about that game, I'd imagine the pre rendered graphics standing up aswell. Tis half the reason I still happily play all the resi games.

Yeah they do actually. I played it on my original xbox in our bedroom on a 32 inch telly and the pre rendered backgrounds were full screen and still held up really well. The character models are still pretty good too. I want to get the others now. I remember playin 2 but I don't think I ever had 3 or 4 so I'm gonna ebay em soon,

    Donkey Kong JR on 3DS.
Well until mal destroyed my high score in such a way that any further attempts became futile.

Daytona USA - for transporting me back to my Sega-obsessed youth.

Also the original Medal of Honor on the psp - was way ahead of its time & brilliantly atmospheric. When WW2 games were more Commando comic than wanting to be Saving Private Ryan. Also a trip back to when fps' let you have more than two weapons at once...

Quite a few actually. I've been playing Warzone 2100 for the first time. Far better than Command & Conquer. Replayed Resi 3 the other day as well. Great way to kill 5 hours.

Total annihilation, Chrono Trigger, Beyond Good and Evil HD and Streets of Rage 2 (I play this one most years).

Chrono Trigger was the stand out, my first JRPG and one of my favourite games this year.

I was a bit dissapointed with Beyond Good and Evil, I love the art style still and the characters but really had to force myself to finish it

Awesome awesome game. Has a few maddenningly tough bits that are a pain in the arse single player, but other than that the game kicks ass. I've probably sunk more hours into that game over the last 3-4 years than any other.

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

I spent the first month of the year playing GTA San Andreas to completion on my original phat PS3. Upscaled it looked decent enough that it was easy to forget just how old it is.

Loved it - even wanted to go back to it just to mess around over the course of the year, but my PS3 died and that was that.

San Andreas is still the game of the PS2 era for me.

Yeah, Titan Quest is really enjoyable to play, especially after you hit a brick wall on your first playthrough and realise that some skill choices are gonna totally fuck you later. There's some immensely fun skills too, highlights for me were curling up inside a ball of rocks like a pussy while your mini volcano spewed all over the mobs, and the archery thing that split your arrows and let them go through enemies (I loved being able to take down a horde of mobs with just a couple of shots, hugely satisfying). I hope Diablo III is as fun to play, whenever the hell Blizz release it.
