I find that I score most points on El D by shooting the orbits and escaping or by finding treasures. I'm not that sure how to activate the big points modes such as the bridge, the rope etc. One of them gives a 10 mil bonus, though which is very high.
  • Deleted user 10 February 2012 10:47:59
I think those challenges are random, but you activate them through the idol tower, if that's what you're getting at. Get the ball in the mouth of the third idol and a random challenge is thrown your way. For some easy points though, if you manage to sink the ball into one of the holes above the blue bumpers, when the third idol's mouth is open, you get spat out on that glass table thing that hovers above the table. You can get an easy 5 million from that by simply avoiding dropping through the holes.

I realise that may not make any sense, but i'm useless at explaining things.

81 mil on Earth Defence. Only actually scored 40 mil after ball 3 and then an extra 20 mil for rescued civilians and another 20 mil other bonuses. Managed to get the x multiplier very high but don't really understand how that works.

Had a go at Earth Defence tonight, but i'm not entirely sure whats going on. I know how to save people. I think I got an award for doing that 10 times, when I first gave the table a go. However, i've no idea what anything else does. What does travelling on the train do? How do I know if i've got a multiplier?

I think i'm going to have to sit down and read through the table rules again and just see what sticks.

Oh yeah. I got 61 million on Elderado, which is quickly becoming my favourite table. Wasted my 4th and final ball though. Got about 200,000 with it at best. :(
  • Deleted user 13 February 2012 09:00:24
The sign halfway up the table on the right hand side shows the multiplier. In Earth Defence just hit anything that is lit or flashes, and try to combo orbit shots up the various lanes. Most of the missions are easy but you only have a few seconds to complete them.

Maybe check out youtube you can find some guides for these tables

I really should, but I just managed 64 million this afternoon. Wasn't sure what was going on most of the time, but I do know that Data mission can get you a quick 5 million each time, so went for that whenever I could.

I must say, I do really like how each table in this game is very different from the next. Not just in terms of the missions, but how you have to go about playing each table. Excalibur requires some great accuracy, and Elderado requires some degree of strategy. This table seems to be a case of going nuts to keep the multiplier up.
  • Deleted user 13 February 2012 16:24:29
Yeah, I've noticed that each table definitely has certain routes that need to be followed to build a good score. While you can play randomly, hitting anything at all, it certainly does pay to plan out shots from the flippers. I generally catch and hold the ball in the flippers before choosing my shot. This works well except in certain situations where time is limited.

In El D it pays to constantly shoot the idol. In Earth Defence it pays to shoot the rescue hole. In Excalibur, unfortunately, it pays to spam the multi ball. On the other hand, Shaman requires very precise shots in specific sequence over a long period of play to do anything worthwhile.
  • Deleted user 13 February 2012 17:36:45
Shaman requires table preparation just to ensure you don't lose the ball inside 30 seconds. It's a toughy.

Made some good progress on Excalibur tonight. I haven't played it in a while and I'm now managing to play it in a much, much controlled manner. I have found that frequently trapping the ball in the flippers makes the table a lot easier. I'm not quite about to claim the top score yet but got around 45 mil a few times tonight and broke several of my top 10 local scores. Hopefully can push it a bit more yet.
  • Deleted user 14 February 2012 22:18:44
    69 mil on Excalibur. Yippee!
  • Deleted user 15 February 2012 00:58:07
Has anyone tried playing this with the circle pad add-on yet? I'm curious as to whether the triggers are an improvement for this game, I imagine they would be simply by being bigger.

Damn! I mean congrats, but now I have to start playing Excalibur again!
  • Deleted user 15 February 2012 04:09:44
Grrr. Excalibur is definitely the most frustrating of the tables. I always seem to have one good ball and two rubbish ones. Not only that, but there is less than 100,000 seperating my 3rd and 10th place local scores. It really feels like i'm playing the same game over and over again at the minute. I still can't aim the left flippers at all, unless it's going for the multiball lane.

Will have to try again tomorrow. Too wound up right now lol.
  • Deleted user 15 February 2012 06:56:39
The top left flipper is hard to aim with any consistency. Most of the time I will get the 'missed' result as I can't hit the Grail or whatever it is. Also, missing the shot can sometimes be deadly as the ball will zoom right down the centre drain. I'm trying to play a bit of a different game, aiming more at the spinner and the small archery targets on the left side and trying to focus on one thing at a time e.g. opening camelot.

The thing that has helped me most is trapping the ball and holding it with a flippers before aiming a shot. I do this maybe 80% of the time. I don't try it when the ball is moving fast or if I need to quickly shoot a flashing target. Other than that there is no benefit to playing quickly. I don't want the ball bouncing wildly all over the place. Much better to control it and be able to predict how it will return to the flippers

This used to be a quick pick up and play game but as I improve I find that each game takes 15 or 20 minutes now.

Do all you experts use the nudge buttons much? I've just started playing and have sod all experience of pinball, but it doesn't seem to have a noticeable effect...
  • Deleted user 15 February 2012 14:14:14
I never use the nudge button. Don't see the use for it. It doesn't really help direct a falling ball, which is the only time i'd consider using it.

As for the aiming on this table, i'm fine with the top left flipper. I can trap balls for the multiball nearly every time. It's mainly the bottom one. I find it almost unpredictable. Sometimes i'll hit the very middle ramp, other times i'll hit the multiball ramp. Getting between that is pot lock. I've no idea why as I can aim perfectly fine on the other 3 tables. Sure i'm not perfect, but I can normally get what I want. Here it seems random, somehow.

Nudge works well on Earth Defense to stop the ball draining down the centre. It hardly alters the trajectory but it is enough to make a save a lot of the time.

Bumflakes. 66 million tonight. 38 million of that came from my first mutliball. I still haven't completed any of the Tales quests on this table and it's about to become my most played 3DS game in the Activity log (32 hours).
  • Deleted user 16 February 2012 07:45:53

Getting pretty close. You do realise of course that no sooner than you set a new record that one of us will no doubt break it right away, then you'll be right back where you started :)
  • Deleted user 16 February 2012 10:45:51
This will go on forever then!
  • Deleted user 16 February 2012 12:14:33
So much the better. Any time someone posts a new high score it makes what was previously impossible, possible. BTW, 38 mil from a multiball is incredible. I usually get 3 to 8 mil on average.
  • Deleted user 16 February 2012 23:04:16
Same as. I have no idea what was going on there. I had a further two multiballs towards the end, but didn't get anything from either of them. Maybe a combined total of about 5 million. :/
  • Deleted user 17 February 2012 07:40:05
I tried last night on Excalibur....65 mil 4 times in a row, so frustrating! How is it that I can score 42 mil with the first ball and then play really crappy afterwards. On the plus side, I completed the medium joust for the first time.
  • Deleted user 17 February 2012 10:37:50
I've never completed the medium joust, but I assue the bonus is 10 million, rather than 5?
  • Deleted user 17 February 2012 12:02:49
Yeah 10 mil for the medium joust. My impression is that you need to press the button sooner rather than later, as I usually get the 'too late' result.
  • Deleted user 21 February 2012 09:13:31
Got the top score on the Shaman table last night. If I can top the El D friend list I'll be the eurogamer undisputed pinball wizard friend list champion! :)

I just know someone is going to ruin it for me :D

Downloaded this last night - only played a couple of times but think it's going to become a firm favourite.

No idea yet what's going on. Maybe I should read the manual!!
  • Deleted user 21 February 2012 16:06:12
If you take El Derado away from me, there will be war! It's all i've got and I put a lot of hard work into that.
  • Deleted user 22 February 2012 00:05:19
DID IT! Woo! 93.9 million on Excalibur! Easily the most tense game of pinball i've ever had. Got to 55 million on my 2nd ball and from then on had your 69 million stuck in my head. I was almost shaking, it meant that much to me lol. Once I passed it though, it became another ordinary game. Gutted not to hit 100 million, but that's the next step!

The most shameful thing is that nearly the entire score came from multiballs. I managed the Beginner's Joust, but never found the Holy Grail, didn't defeat either beast or complete any of the Knight's Tales.

In fact i've never completed any of the Knight's tales or won a duel with the champion, or stopped the invaders of Camelot. I can barely scratch the achievements on this table, all because I can't aim that left flipper. It's not a problem on the other tables, which is confusing the life out of me. I've put more time into this table than any other, too.
