    Saw this on GAF (yes, I feel slimy):

    Rumour: MS to reintroduce XBOX ONE - Possible Price Reduction to Coincide

    There have been discussions about creating price parity between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 by reducing the Xbox One price to $399/399. Conversation has centred on bigger losses per unit sold versus loss of sales traction.
    Holy carp!

    Gamescon press conference is the chance to start over and get a clear message across. Just the facts, less buzzwords and marketing nonsense. Real world demonstrations that matter, not wouldn't it cool to control IE on your Xbox with your phone via smartglass.

    Holy smokes Batman, that would be awesome.

    Think we have to thank Sony for all of this never ending back-pedalling!

    Just a rumour, but that would be quite a big deal. I figured they'd at least stick with the current price for the first few months or so, but we'll see.

    It'll also come with a free unicorn, I think losing $900M on the Surface RT is probably as much as Microsoft can stomach this year.

    This space left intentionally blank.

    Any reason to believe that website?

    I could maybe see them dropping the price in Europe a little but nothing like that.

    @Whizzo

    If Microsoft have shown anything it's that they'll throw endless supplies of cash at something to create the perception of success.

    At the end of the day, if everyone said they were buying an X1 I doubt MS would care much about what Sony are doing.

    Either way, it makes no difference why. You could also say Sony wouldn't have done half of what they're doing if not for Microsoft, so the argument goes round and round.

    You're right, especially with all the internet hate lately.

    THANKS, SONY! Who knows where gaming would be without you!

    I'm just going to throw this out there, what if they chucked in a Surface RT with the launch allocation over the Christmas period.

    I still think they should have just come back and explained everything clearly again. If they actually gave people the information we've had to search for, I'm assuming a lot of people would have accepted what they had planned originally.

    Basically if explained that they didn't block all used games, only the option was available for publishers if they wanted ala PS4 and that the 24 hour check, was so that you could loan full games to friends digitally along with keeping all your games on the HD, people could actually weigh the pro's and cons.
    Problem is, the US military told them to go fuck themselves and their always-online.

    It sure does appear that Mattrick left M$ a whole lot of own goals and butthurt to deal with before fleeing. Dude's getting paid so much by Zynga it doesn't seem to matter if he never works again, and it likely he never needs to work again already anyway.

    I apologise.

    For making you (possibly?) upset.

    @CharlieStCloud

    No need to apologize, even if I was upset. That would be my own fault for allowing that to happen.

    You're entitled to your opinion, even if I think it's horseshit. :p

    Not that this matters, but does anyone remember Microsoft saying at the X1 conference that Sony were no longer their direct competition? So what exactly have Google and Apple done in the meantime that has disrupted their X1 launch plans? Sound like they forgot about that.

    I am still hopeful that this new plan will result in them withdrawing kinect 2.0. If they can't lower the console price but did want to replace kinect with an RT tablet running a new specific X1 os for two screen gaming, I see that as quite a decent value propositions.

    Thinking more about kinect 2.0, I wonder if the reason for it being mandatory is partly to do with kinect 1.0 stock possibly being shipped to stores on sale or return terms. Fundamentally Kinect 1.0 operates more like the claims of kinect 2.0 when connected to a PC (with ample USB 3.0 bandwidth and processing time), so I'll be shocked if kinect 2.0 isn't just a recycle of kinect 1.0 hardware with a new plastic wide angle lens, a new chip on the PCB and a new plastic housing. So what if the problem they have with kinect is that they'd have to write off large amounts of existing stock everyone thought was sold to stores, and produce another hole in their balance sheet. I guess the cancelling of Kinect 2.0 would also result in a big R&D writeoffs for the acquisition of the original PrimeSense R&D software license, and now that Rare are pretty much kinect only it could result in closure of Rare and a write off for the old investment.

    Either way it is interesting times if they are really looking to shake up their strategy and offering.

    Well, I'm sure Sony will eventually see to it that Kinect is removed as a mandatory item.

    I don't think so. Your more likely to get a free surface than them getting rid of kinect.

    Deal with it.

    There's plenty of time for backpedaling from both parties.

    The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.
