    @pelican_ what kind of genre were you thinking of? Even with the current open world craze, there are still lots of linear games out there.

    Every year there's a claimed "open world craze" but it doesn't really exist. There are no more this year than last year, or the year before.
    It sort of got bigger a handful of years ago when a couple of racers and a few shooters jumped into the pool, because advances in tech and tools made them viable, but we're just seeing sequels to those titles now.

    On topic, Inside if you've not played it. Its short and sweet and fucking brilliant.

    @Malek86 Not sure. Just finised Origins this evening and loved it. Don't want to head into another 37 hour game :)

    I might play Bad Company again.

    @pelican_ I'm finding it a lot less terrifying than Amnesia. It certainly has its moments, but it's more about existential threat than hideous monsters lurching out of the shadows to eat your face (though it does have those too!).

    I'm not quite finished yet, but I've just found it to be a really enjoyable adventure game with an intriguing story, really.

    @Ror Oh god. I couldn't play Amnesia. ;)

    Resident Evil and The Evil Within are as scary/horror I get. Enjoyed/finished both Resi 7 & and TEW 2 this year.

    Started playing BF BC1 and it brought back some memories. Gunplay feels quite rigid compared to modern FPS, but it is nearly a 10 year old game.

    Think I'll play it on a level basis and spread it out.

    Long time lurker, I would recommend any telltale game as i find them a great refresher game.

    @pelican_ Oh, I noped out of Amnesia after about half an hour :) But here I am about fourteen hours into Soma and it's one of the best games I've played all year.

    I haven't played Resi 7 or TEW2 yet, though both are on my to-do list. I own the first Evil Within and have only played about an hour /o\ to be honest, I don't really play a lot of horror games anyway.

    @Ror When you get a chance I'd recommended playing both Resi 7 and TEW2 - both are great games.

    @Malek86 Yeah, a good idea.

    Need something nice and simple as I've got a cold I'm trying to shift. So I'm having a chilling day and would prefer not to have to think :)

    @pelican_ well, it doesn't get any nicer and simpler than Rayman Legends, if you haven't played it already. They gave it away with Gold some time ago.

    I would say Origins too (it's backward compatible), but I found it a bit difficult at times.

    @pelican_ You could play Yooka-Laylee and/or Super Lucky's Tale. Both have their price reduced now. I'm having a great time with Super Lucky's Tale, the controls are absolutely smooth and I love the art style and music. In the beginning it's easy but the challenge comes later. It has become one of my favourite 3D platformers ever.

    Yeah, the craze has been lasting a few years now.

    Edith Finch, Tacoma & Virginia bought today.
    I like walking simulators :)

    Firewatch and Everybodys Gone To The Rapture are two of my favourite 'games' so that there is proof I think lol.

    What else is there ?
    I tried Dear Esther ... umm couldn't really connect with that one

    Gone Home?

    Also you should try The Path on PC, will probably run on just about anything today.

    Atmosphere and immersion.
    Thats what they have that I think I like.

    Its as if they have to double down on that because of the lack of action.

    And with it being somewhat 'interactive', the immersion is more than a tv show or movie can offer.
    It works for me anyway :D

    Gone Home is several brilliant sub-plots cleverly hidden in a brilliant story. I'd never tried a walking simulator before and I bloody loved it.

    Gone Home is pretty good, but I say that as someone who doesn't really appreciate walking simulators. That and The Path are essentially the only ones I really liked.

    And that was because they are pretty different from the average walking simulator. There's more to see and less to listen. Also more interactivity than usual.

    The exploration exists but there aren't any puzzles or anything, just grabbing the key to open the door and then reading and listening to a teenager's love story and the awful songs. Probably the only 'walking simulator" I have played. In the manor of Rise of the Tomb Raider the idea is similar but there are puzzles. I got Gone Home with Gold but if I had paid for it I would have been disappointed.
