Terrible and unfeasible ideas are pretty much my speciality...!

I am really just looking for a reason why I would by a next generation console.

Do you really think it is not technically feasible? Don't all Xbox game run on DirectX? Can they not just charge us for a tweaked .ini file?

There's a chance that, as things stand, I will wait 3 years before I upgrade to a new console. To wait for a catalogue of releases. But if, on day one, I could replay flasher versions of games I already own like Batman AC, GTA, and Battlefield then I would be encouraged. Maybe.

(I confess that I know nothing about console development. Its just an idea)

Well, if that's what you're after then you wouldn't buy a next gen console, you'd buy or upgrade your existing PC for all your graphic improving, .ini file tweaking needs.

500MS for a graphical sheen might be a percieved win for the console consumer, but wouldn't publishers prefer their cut of a 30 retail remake along with the chance to blood a new team or two on an easy project?

I think I was like this at the end of the last gen, knowing that graphics could be better but not being able to imagine just how much better they actually could be.

Then I saw Gotham 3 for the first time!

Apparently that Durango dev kit is now on ebay.

I still find this a weird story. Surely MS knows every single company that has a next gen dev kit so unless the thing was stolen they have a good idea who has it.

I wonder if they will ask ebay to take down the listing or just put an outrageous bid on it and never speak of it again. If it is real of course. Perhaps some stupid long game PR stunt to build up interest.

It's an animated short film that has nothing to do with any consoles of any kind, now or in the future.

I reckon if you put 5 a week away from now until Nov 2013 you'll be able to buy the 720 at launch.

    That is all.

So will the new xbox pad become pc game standard, making the x360 pad obsolite?
I'm wondering whether I will have to keep an old 360 pad to play current gen pc games in future

I'm a buy at launch kinda guy, but MS are seriously gonna have to pull something decent out of the bag if they want to compete with my current PC, and its release schedule.

I think they should keep the design of the controller mostly the same, but improve the feel of the buttons/triggers, and make them all more precise, maybe analog buttons like PS controllers are. Scrap the d pad and start again with a better design. Maybe add two buttons tops, no need for any more. Built in long life battery would be good too.
  • Deleted user 14 October 2012 17:35:04
I wouldn't encourage any more buttons on a controller. I do still find some games have unnecessarily complicated controls, as they feel every action requires a different button. I'd make the controller a little lighter, if possible. I preferred the wired pads for their weight, not that weight was ever really an issue.

The D-Pad has to change though. It's on par with the Master System D-pad for awkwardness and accuracy.

Apart from the d-pad the current model is pretty much perfect. If that's the only thing they change it would suit me fine,

And you'd imagine it would be very cheap for them to do. Basically use the same production line with a small alteration.

The current Xbox pad is my favourite non-joystick game controller I've used. Not that much room for improvement in my mind, but perhaps the L and R buttons could be analogue.

And they really have to fix the drifting on the analogue sticks!

The count up from when they stopped caring about games sits at two years and counting.

Anyone else see the report about MS having required internet connection and tieing games to usernames? It was widely reported a couple days on the main VG sites back and sourced from Edge. Not a peep from Eurogamer. Why would that be?

Most of the next-gen console chitchat is going on in this thread on the forum. Can't imagine there'll be much Xbox specific chat here until there are facts, and stuff.

As for why it wasn't covered on the front page, I imagine it's because it's all unconfirmed whispers and stuff, and the fact that all that gubbins appears on the EG group site VG247 is probably enough reposting of rumours.

    I'm only guessing, mind.
