They have one of those secure lock parts on the console which should tell you, we are selling this to businesses. Check out this Kinect controlled powerpoint, let me start up Smartglass and show you this, shall we Skype Hong Kong. Yay......

In all seriousness, there is nothing as tedious in the history of mankind as typing text into a virtual keyboard using a controller.
Valve did a decent solution with their Big Picture Mode daisywheel.
Also apparently Kinect now does speech-to-text so you can dictate text messages, etc.

    How good it'll be I don't know.
Hopefully better than Siri. I have done a few voice-text message, and it doesn't half come out with some amusing stuff.

@Moot_Point I don't think I would use that feature anyway as I don't tend to play old games. Once I am finished a game I never really go back to it. So once I go next gen the old box will be going. I have a hell of a lot of games to catch up on though for current gen which is why I am in no hurry to make the leap.

I figure particularly on the MS side early adopters are going to get shafted on price. I don't see MS maintaining the price difference to the PS4 for long. I think they will have to price match within 6 months and by then there should even be a good supply of games out for both.

They have said you can plug a console into the HDMI input, but have also requested that you don't. The lag on the pass through connection isn't designed with gaming in mind, but for media consumption where it isn't an issue.

    Oh really?
That's a real shame. Sounds like console gaming will end for me sooner rather than later. Will the 360 still be capable of connecting to XBL once the xbone is released?

@Moot_Point Yes, and you'll be able to sign into both consoles simultaneously.

@glaeken Well I am currently playing Diablo 3 at the moment, so not really retro gaming. The old games I enjoy the most i play on my laptop. There are a few business models I hate on the consoles, one of them being charging for HD versions of older games so wouldn't miss not owning a console.

Will they phase out 360 support over time? How long, I wonder? :S

I can see it taking a few years to phase out 360 support. I am sure they can support both easily enough on XBlive. There will be a pretty big installed based I would think on the 360 for a good few years yet and if they are paying for gold membership its a revenue stream I don't see MS being quick to shut down.

They've said they're committed to 360 for three more years post-One release, which I think means three years' worth of releases planned.

I imagine things will slow over those three years, so it'll probably be a trickle of unambitious multiplats, licenses, and family games by 2016.

I wouldn't be surprised by this at all. Anyone else remember the good old days of nasty evil microsoft reimbursing all original xbox early adopters with a controller and 2 first party games because of a dramatic shift in pricing not long after release of the old black box.

What will be interesting will be the availability of bundles vs single units on the ps4 side of things, if all people can buy are bundles for months of end vs the price of a xbox one it offers a more comparable price structure.

I think we will really have to see how they both do over the first few months. I think the general expectation amongst gamers is the PS4 will take the lead to start with and if that does happen then I think MS will have to drop their price.

Of course us gamers may be completely wrong though. You can never really tell which way the great unwashed are going to jump. Just witness the amazing success of the Wii. Maybe all this TV stuff and voice control MS are pushing will capture the imagination of the masses.

Has anyone who pre-ordered on the Microsoft store been able to pay, yet? I think the status on mine is simply listed as pre-order.

Quite funny, say anything related to Xbox that isn't negative or obvious PR. They will be talking about Rallisport Challenge tomorrow, you never know wink lie wink.

The Xbox One is number 9 on Popular Mechanic's 10 Breakthrough products of 2013.

Some products are evolutionary, others are revolutionary. The Xbox One is both. The most notable improvement is the new Kinect sensor, which is integral to the operation of the console. It can see in total darkness, track the fine movements of your hands and muscles, and even sense your heartbeat. Gamers may have taken issue with the Xbox One's price ($500) and paywall restrictions (some features require a $50 per year subscription), but technologically it's a huge upgrade from its predecessor. The platform is so advanced that developers have barely begun to grasp all its possibilities.

Although I keep changing my mind, I'm currently leaning in favour of keeping my Xb1 preorder rather than swapping for a PS4. I need next gen Forza and Halo in my life. PS4 will keep till next christmas.

Been slightly wobbling on getting both, and would certainly go X1 if i do stumble.

    Probs still get both, though.

Sold 70 Xbox 360 games on eBay today to possibly part fund my purchase of an Xbox One. Bit disappointed that I only got 14 for Saints Row 4 and 8 for FarCry 3, though.
