Has anybody else started playing this yet? My copy arrived a few days ago and I'm really enjoying it so far. Definite shades of Persona 3 in some regards, which I like, along with a curious rock-paper-scissors battle system and a great story with some unexpected twists already. Pretty dark, too. I've gone with female protagonist and Saber for my initial playthrough, but I might try Caster if I do a lap of honour since she's apparently a little crazy.

I played through the opening couple of hours a while ago on the JP release, was surprised to see it come out in the US. I'm currently replaying F/SN before I watch the F/Z anime, I might go back to this afterwards/around the time the sequel comes out next year.

Yes, I was pretty surprised to see it picked up by Aksys, although pleased of course. I like how the Grail War ideas and some of the Fate characters have been adapted to fit into the F/E world. Reassuring to know that Shinji is a jerk in whatever version he's in... I'd definitely recommend the F/Z anime-I feel it's much stronger than either of the F/SN anime adaptations I've seen.

This really is getting dark! Spoilers for end of first Colliseum battle: I was expecting Shinji to whine about his defeat, but that moment when screamed that he didn't want to die because he was only 8 years old... I did not see that coming at all. Explains why he acted younger than he looked, but wow, pretty grim stuff.

Not yet I'm afraid. I've been told that it should be closer to the release of the physical version then with our previous games but that is all I know at the moment.

So is this any good then? I'm constantly reading the word 'repetitive' referred to this game.

I'm rather enjoying the Fate/Stay Night visual novel and I was hoping to jump on this afterwards.

Since this thread is so small it doesn't really seem worth starting a separate FE CCC thread, but I just saw that Gilgamesh is going to be in the next game as a servant (so four options instead of three). Everybody's favourite oh-so-shiny jerk. I'm happy anyway, but how will I pick between him and FE Saber? I think it'll have to be multiple playthroughs for me...

@Cheapshot I enjoy it but the rock-paper-scissors battle system and the overall structure can be a bit repetitive at times.

Yeah, I've picked it up. The artbook/CD combo is pretty cool, as you'd expect from a Ghostlight limited edition. I'm enjoying the game so far, onto the second week, playing in between Disgaea 3 sessions.

Ok, so on to the 4th week, and I am finding the difficulty a bit all over the place. Sometimes it's a piece of piss, but others you can get rail-roaded into impossible battles if you're not careful. Like the monster hunt on the second floor of week 4, if you accidently run into the other master.

True. Also that insta death if you choose the wrong option. :D

Incidentally, the official art book is seriously nice. It's interesting to see the earlier designs of some of the characters, too.

Yeah, I'm playing with a guide to avoid those dead ends. I wouldn't usually, but with how annoying a wrong turn leading to death can be, it's such a pain not to.

Ah, fair enough. Probably better for your sanity. The combat system isn't so amazing that I love repeating sections.

I don't think there's any point to getting bad ends in F/E, though? :)
