I don't think this turn of events had shocked anyone.

Woody Allen is a fan of A Serbian Film then I take it?
  • Deleted user 3 February 2014 09:47:08
Personally I don't really know how to react to the Woody Allen stuff. It's very easy to believe the accusations are true based on things like his marriage to Soon-Yi Previn and his whole "the heart wants what it wants" shtick.

At the same time being with a 21 year old, or even a 17 year old (a la Manhattan) isn't raping a seven year old. No to mention this accusation has already gone through the courts and he was not found guilty.

I dont think anyones batted an eyelid at the Woody Allen revelations because... well... its woody allen, a well established and legitimised nonce.

Its strange that its got to the point were no one really bats an eyelid at this stuff anymore.

We've just had a detailed and heartbreaking account of a child being raped by Woody Allen, and everyone just shrugs. "Did he put his dick in a baby? Cos thats what we're up to now. Call me when someone else puts their dick in a baby again. In fact make it two babies"
I think it's more about Allen's relationship with Mia Farrow's kid that takes some of the wind out of the allegations' sails.

Yeah, the fact that it's already been through the courts and dropped is important. Pretty good timing with the Oscars approaching for this to resurface if someone wanted to hit his weak spot for massive damage.

In fact, could Allen not sue Dylan Farrow now for defamation? If the allegations have been proven to be false?

Its a bit of a double edged sword.

If he does nothing, he almost endorses it.

If he takes it to court, every sordid detail of Allens life is writ large for the world to see, guilty or not (see: Kevin off Corrie. Not guilty but utterly humiliated).

It's also all quite difficult because the girl in question is in the nicest possible way, a total fruitcake - the courts found that she was unable to distinguish between fantasy and reality and the case fell apart because of it.

So suing her would't be a great PR move.

It's incredibly sad. She's not well, and maybe she was raped, but it's the bitterness Mia Farrow has towards Allen over the Previn thing that is likely to be driving the accusations.

The whole thing is a total clusterfuck, but again, the Previn thing makes accusing Allen of being a fully fledged nonce eminently believable. It's an easy sell. That doesn't make it true (although at the same time, it might be true...).

What about the New York Times then; should they have published the letter? Great publicity sure, but if someone's been found not guilty of something, should they really be stirring up the pot? I'd imagine they couldn't be sued because it's not their own writing, but still, they chose to publish it.

Yeah - 'allegedly' there is a lot more to the Kevin story than was revealed however, so let's not feel too sorry for him. Allegedly.

I dont feel sorry for him. Maybe a better, non-noncey analogy would be nigella.

She took those two italians to court and had all her dirty laundry aired to try and establish her as an unreliable druggy.

You can bet that if it went to court, every sordid part of allen and farrows split would be pawed over in forensic detail (for better of worse).

Ugh, like the revelations that michael jackson used to show kids pictures of diseased cocks.

It was the police doctor appointed by the court that concluded the story was invented, and likely made up by Mia Farrow.
