I only enjoy them with gerbil sauce, or a dash of distilled hamster.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

    Mmm... Mice pies.

On topic. Bought the Heston ones from Waitrose. They're really good.

    :D mod fix please

@Psychotext Oh fancy! I got some posh ones once, from Marks I think, they had all butter pastry instead of the normal stuff, was absolutely lush! Funnily, my favs are the cheap crispy pastry ones from Asda.

    "Lush"? Am I woman now?

Not had a mince pie in over four years. Nor a chicken pie, steak pie or macaroni pie. Certainly not had a mince pie with mashed tatties and a couple of baked beans on top.

OMG! :o Now what will the mods do? o_O that's 90% of their workload, this place is going to get oppressive ;p

@Khan, not beef mince mate, crimbo fruit mince! :D However, I did have a tasty beef mince and onion pie with chips recently. you should make one yourself! Can't be that hard :)

I think more than almost any other fruit based pie product, you need to buy expensive mince pies. The cheap ones are inedible.

Mince pies are the best bit of Christmas, or at least the run up to Christmas anyway - loot is obviously the best bit of Christmas proper.

Mince pies are edged out by those German mincemeat doughnuts they have at the Christmas markets though - can't remember what they're called but mmmmmmmm.... they are good.

Doughtnuts and mince pies combined - the ultimate combination!

Great, now I have a major hankering for one and no way to satisfy it :-(

Cannot wait for over indulging in mince pies and mulled wine. Missed Christmas markets last year so definitely going to get my fill of those too.

I was thinking more west country, I think I'll be reading all your posts with that in mind from here on :D

The missus brought back some Sainsburys specials on Wednesday, all gone now. They were bloody lush I tell you.

Mince pies are intrinsically naff. If you are going to be arsed to bake then there a hundred better things to make... Like gooey chocolate and raspberry brownies for example. Hmmm

Might have to chill some clotted cream, infuse it with a generous drop of Cointreau and make with the mincies this weekend.

I have always love Mince Pies, the best bit of Christmas for me...

Missed out on them a few years ago when i spent Christmas in Poland, they did not have them and their Christmas dinner is a thing of HORROR...!!! :-(

    Deep fried Carp.
    Beetroot soup.
    Mushroom soup.
    Bigoss...

All things i do not like and all eaten on the night before Christmas. No proper Christmas dinner on the day, just some cold meets and cheese.

It was a hungry time for me..!

They are lush. What the hell is in them I've always wondered. It's definately not meat, but tastes kind of meaty.
Many recipes contain beef suet (fat), but apart from that it's just dried fruit, peels, spices and spirits which has been reduced (and so isn't significantly alcoholic, but has a certain something from the booze)

Bah, far too much dancing, not nearly enough prancing. What do you think, Smithers?

A little mincing would be nice, sir.

This thread makes me want to go downstairs and grab one to nibble on while I consider the weighty topic of Medvedev and his "reforms"... but then I would want another and another... must resist

Mince Pie, squirty cream and grated orange zest. Heaven.

When you can't see the angles on the wall you're in trouble.
