Just got a brand new LED TV and I want some movie that really amazes me in terms of action, special effects and so on. I'm thinking of Transformers and Iron Man at the top of my mind but I have already seen these.

Any movie worth buying which can really blow my mind in terms of visual awesomeness?

Check out the Blu Ray Recommendations thread.

I have no idea why that doesn't work

Of course, buying BDs based on image quality alone is akin to owning Rise of the Robots and Daikatana.

Se7en. Not action packed or full of special effects, but the cinematography & production design is stunning, the picture quality is up there with the best I've seen and it's a fucking amazing film.

The new Star Trek film. It looks incredible and is a bloody good film to boot. My number one pick by miles.

Up would also be a good pick. The scene where his house flies off is stunning.

Superman Returns is fairly decent for sound and visuals too. Shame about the film.

Yes I do have 5.1 sound and no I'm not referring to just visual clarity, my main post didn't really explain well, I guess I was excited about finally having a TV in my room.

I know all about the famous movies, avatar and so on, so I guess what I am really looking for are lesser known movies? Or remakes of originals which are really great in terms of video, audio fidelity as well as being generally good movies.

Thanks for the thread I hadn't seen that so it's my mistake. And thanks for the recommends I do appreciate.

Just have to disagree with Whatsfor and Jono above, I thought House of Flying Daggers and Superman Returns had disappointing picture quality. Very soft and unfocused, didn't wow me at all.

Both had great surround sound quality though, PCM I think.

Also, I wouldn't recommend buying movies like what you're after. Just rent them. Transformers and Avatar and shit like that certainly look the business (fucking amazing, tbh). But the movies are so crappy that you'll struggle to sit through 'em once, never mind repeated viewings.

I'd say The Searchers is an outstanding blu-ray to show-off.

The movie is 55 years old, and looks like it was made yesterday. Stunning.

Yes I did rent some of the 'big' titles and like you said, they are there only for one or two sittings.

I was looking to buy Alien Anthology set. I have never really seen the Alien series and some reviews are well good. My only concern is that the movies were made a while ago so I'm not sure how they would stack up to today's standards.

I will check out The Searchers thanks.

As I said, 2001 is probably one of the best.

    Anyway, use this - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1168342
