I think the wheel choices have an effect on the handling. Bigger tyres are more slippery and smaller tyres have more grip. They may well offer differing speeds on grass. I didn't really get to try out the other options at Eurogamer though. :(

That trailer makes it look like the chassis will have very little effect on your kart's attributes and it's mostly down to the tyres in how your kart handles.

I do hope they can do title updates for the 3DS so we don't get the trademark Nintendo multiplayer imbalances where only one or two tactics/characters/strategies are viable.

It sounds as if the communities are not as customisable as I first presumed. You can choose to have a one item race so all green shells or all mushrooms but you cant do more then that. So you cant do every item but a blue shell for example.

Lame, they should just have a simple list of items you can turn on or off, it's not that hard. :(

I heard from this guy who knows someone who once worked in the same building as a games company that they're not.

Right, so apparently every track has been announced now, and the final retro track is definately the one i'm most excited for. SNES Rainbow Road in 3D with 8 decent online players is going to be hilarious. Here's the full list.

    Wii Mushroom Gorge
    DS Luigi’s Mansion

    Banana Cup

    Cheep-Cheep Lagoon
    Shy Guy Bazaar

    Star Cup

    Piranha Plant Slide
    Wario Shipyard
    Neo Bowser City
    Maka Wuhu

    Special Cup

    DK Jungle
    Rosalina’s Ice World
    Bowser’s Castle
    Rainbow Road

    Battle Stages

    GBA Battle Course 1
    N64 Big Doughnut
    DS Palm Shore
    Honeybee Hive
    Sherbet Rink
    Wuhu Town
Why did they pick the worse N64 battle track?! Should have been Block Fort fools!

Still massively looking forward to it after playing at the Expo.

All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.

There is some footage of people racing the Leaf, star, special and lightning cups on YouTube. Some of the new tracks look fantastic, the new rainbow road is a visual treat. I regret looking now

Very much excited by the idea of Mario Kart mobile multiplayer. I wanted to share my gamertag and ask you lot to add me to your friends list.

But whilst typing this I realized we are talking about friendcodes. And because of their numeric nature a bitch to share off the top of my head. Which makes this posting rather pointless. Sorry.

I've already got your friendcode from the friendcodes thread, I think. But I'm honestly still not sure how online works on this. Seems you can just share the code for a group or something, and let anyone join by entering that code I think.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

No block fort in battle mode. I've been waiting for year for them to add it to another Mariokart. It was the best one.

It was in the DS version, but you couldn't play it online. It is definately the best of the Battle maps.

Yeah, though it'll be a while before we see it again on handheld if it was only just on the last handheld version. Shame.

Meh, never really cared for Block Fort. But then, I didn't much care for MK64 Battle Mode. My faves are still the SNES battle tracks. Simplicity rules. But is there finally a feather powerup in this?
  • Deleted user 24 November 2011 05:14:09

Suddenly Mario Kart reaches multiplayer madness: this is how easy it is to race with friends online: http://www.vg247.com/2011/11/24/check-out-the-3dss-new-join-friend-function/

Unless I'm much mistaken, there was a spinning globe in the video. That means it's only a short hop to the inevitable connection error messages because you know full well joining other people's races once it's out is going to be the kind of monumental shambles that only Nintendo have the experience to create.

That would be nice, but to date they have proven themselves masters of the inept when it comes to anything to do with online.

Still, a notch above total shambles would be an improvement.

May sound a bit odd, but I'm actually more excited about the Streetpass potential for this. That, and if the core game underneath is good (which it certainly looks to be) may push me into getting it.

    @Kay

Do you mean à la Street Fighter? Where virtual battles ensue after passing others carrying a dormant 3DS?

Something a lot more interesting than that, hopefully!.

I'm thinking player ghosts, unique collectible items for the karts, other goodies... some sort of metagame in addition to that would be nice as well.
