    Truth:

New York City is greater than whatever city you live in (unless it's NYC).

    Proof:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-15208873

"But just WAIT!", you might say. "London is a great world city and it's been around for two millennia. It's even hosting the 2012 Olympic Games which it won out OVER New York City."

    That's true also, lol.

I once mentioned that New York's theme song should be "It's raining men" after 9/11. Didn't go down well.

Yeah, well it wouldn't at a 9/11 victim memorial service would it?

How dare you! For such a special and sombre occasion I would actually start singing it.

    Interesting stuff.
I wonder how those two chaps financed all that. There didn't seem to be entrance fees, nor advertisement anywhere in the park (unless those things were kept off-camera)

It's definitely a nice example of proper contemporary urban planning.

There's an article about it in National Geographic, April or March edition this year - may have more details in there but I was just staring in awe at the pretty photos, very pretty at night/dusk.

Yeah it's a pretty fucking awesome park. Copycats are in planning/development around the US. Hope I can visit New York next year like I've been wanting to. I will definitely make that a stop. Between this, Central Park and various other parks, I think NYC is #1 when it comes to urban parks.

It's a nice "park", but can't believe some are creaming themselves over it. Probably because NY has sod all greenery. Fucking miserable grey, ugly block city. Has other things going for it fortunately.

You don't travel much, do you?

Hi everyone, I'm FWB and I'm EXTREMELY angry from some reason. I like quiet walks by myself being jaded and enjoy venting my frustration on the internet.

    LOL.

That park is rather shit to be honest. And speaking of copycats. I think the orriginal is in Paris. NYC is the greatestcity in the world dor many reasons. Although, I personally prefer Beijing. That park isn't one of them.

Except for Central Park, which is quite a lot of greenery...

Not compared to many other cities. London, for example, pisses over it in terms of park space.

That's not technically true. London city is 1.1 sq miles and there's fuck all greenery within it. New York city is 469 sq miles and has 7 state parks, one of with is 883 acres (Central Park).

Even if you're talking about London as a whole and New York State you'd still be wrong, as Adirondack Park is fricking huge.

Comparing Central London to New York City isn't an accurate comparison.

Yup tiny in comparison to other city parks in the world like:
    Fairmount in Phily
    Chapultepec in Mexico
    Silesian Katowice in Poland
    Metropolitan Park in Santiago
    Phoenix Park in Dublin

@Derb. Are you really pointing to just the City when referring to London?

Incorporating the boroughs is perfectly valid. One London isn't in the city. Bringing the state into the equation is not though. You're the one comparing apples and oranges.

Doesn't Moscow have the biggest single park in the world? And, as I understood it, London is second to Canberra in terms of percentage of park space in the city.

EDIT: Wiki says Cape town with this though I wonder how that really is within the city.

All of this is pointless though, since the high line park is shit. Some strands of fancy grass. The one in Paris is proper nice.
  • Deleted user 9 October 2011 11:43:38
What about Tokyo? That's full of huge parks.
