    If you only (re)read one thing in the inevitable flood of Jobs related links I recommend this one

    @Flightrisker,

    That's a great speech. Mucho respect.

    The iPhone 4S jokes in this thread are so predictable and amazingly unfunny I suggest 48 hour bans for everyone who inflicted them on us.

    does that mean that I can't ask if anyone had checked that he really is dead rather than them just holding him wrong?

    RIP Steve, I didn’t always agree with your politics, but I have nothing but respect for the way you’ve changed the technological landscape.

    Rest in peace.

    Steve;

    People laughed when Apple dared to start offering developers the ability to make video games on your machine, yet in the iPod, Phone and Pad, you have the biggest games console the world has ever seen.

    You changed the games industry more than people realise.

    RIP.

    See this is where the silliness starts. How on earth are any of those items a games console?  They are gadgets which can play games, despite being seriously knobbled by a total lack of a decent control method.

    Wrong. So, so wrong.

    A machine becomes a games console when;

    - people buy a machine for its games (which they do)

    - thousands of GAMES DEVELOPERS are created to make games for a machine (which there are)

    Anyway, this isn't the place for this debate.

    So why bring it up then?

    This could turn out to be the clusterfuck thread of 2011 with muliple GIs.

    Anyway, RIP Steve.

    Err because this is a games website so a fitting place to pay tribute to Apples new gaming routes?

    Sad news, the best to his family and friends

    But not to the legion of trolls who must be feeling like a 5 year old on Christmas morning.

    So, biggest innovation? I'm gonna go with putting USB on every iMac and forcing out the legacy connections.

    Caused a flood of USB devices.

    Weirdly sad about this. Even if he was a tyrannical, narcissistic nutter. He was still one of the greatest figures of the last 100 years and unquestionably a visionary in the true sense of the word.

    RIP

    Could we keep count on the number of times the term "visionary" is used?

    When did he say this:

    "Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn't matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we've done something wonderful … that's what matters to me."

    :(

    Not a fan of Apple products but love Pixar who he was instrumental in saving.

    RIP.

    I won't use the "v" word but he was more than someone who made computers or advanced technology. He was one of the most significant shapers of the world as it is in the 21st Century.

    And beyond that, he died far to young, which is tragic regardless.

    Very sad indeed.

    For anyone who hasn't seen it...Pirates of Silicon Valley

    Interesting docu-drama about Apple and Microsoft, with the guy from ER as Jobs and the nerd from the Breakfast Club as Bill Gates.
