To be perfectly honest, I don't think many on here actually cared :p

They'll sort it soon I hope but the furore on Neogaf won't die down quite so easily...

It could be anything at this point. I understand that MonkeyPaw have to store the Japanese version of the game somewhere but how (after a successful US launch) have they sent the Japanese version by mistake?

It also raises a potential question about QA but let's keep quiet about that because the games are stuck there forever in Europe already :p

I was listening to Crystal Habit, the Tomb Raider/Crystal Dynamics podcast, and they answered a question that the main reason Tomb Raider II took as long after the US to appear on SCEE PSN, is because they couldn't find the original master for PAL, then had to work with the US (NTSC) version to bring it to meet SCEE standards to pass certification. So, it's not always QA on these things, even though in this case, Monkey Paw probably did mess up.

What Karl said. It states clearly that it's the Jap game before you buy it :-/

Indeed but we were promised the US version - and people don't read the description because they just want the game by name and reputation alone.

    Edit (after some extra research):

I believe any non-RPG games from MonkeyPaw will be fully Japanese. However, any RPG's they bring over will be in English due to the language barrier for them.

I think at worst, it's just one of those problems that are found during the starting phase...

Far more people don't read the blog than do. As I said in the other thread, the press release said it was going to be Japanese, the description says it's Japanese. So far there's only one blog post on the matter suggesting that we'd be getting the English version, everything else points to no wrongdoing. The legals/checks behind issuing the press release and product descriptions suggest this is far from just being an error - it looks like it's been the plan all along and some community manager has got the wrong end of the stick. The fact the the weeb-monkey at MonkeyPaw has posted English screens matters not one jot

So, what is the point of releasing an RPG over here with no English language option? Why didn't they, you now, release the American version which I bought years ago?

I suppose there would have been issues with Working Designs or Victor Ireland's idiotically named new company, as they did the original English translations.

No idea, I don't work for MonkeyPaw :-)

If it's a mistake then it's a seriously dumb one. They've generated a press release stating the Jap version's the one coming out, they've passed the Jap one to Sony cert/QA to check over before releasing & they've created a store item description that tells buyers it's the Japanese version. Too many elements there to suggest that this was anything but their plan all along

    That's it.

Unless the publisher can get through whatever legal hurdles are in place they can't use Working Designs' English version.

    *edit*

No, it's just a mistake according to the news update on the front page. Apparently. An English version is coming.

    That's a pretty big mistake.

    Via the Heads Up blog
Hi Guys, Thanks for all your support in the launch of the Import section. We realize the wrong version of Arc the Lad is on sale. Of course, the intention was for the English version to be sold. Sony is working on getting the English ready and will replace the JP versions already purchased. Please give them some time.

As some of you know from our US site, we offer games that are in Japanese but are relatively easy-to-navigate fighters, shooters and puzzles. We also have a couple of RPGs (Arc, Alundra, Vanguard Bandits — oops, did I say that?) that we’ll bring you in English.

We hope you like our games and understand that some will be in Japanese only. See our site for info on the games. Sorry for the launch trouble and thanks for your patience.
