Registered 9 years agoGot masses from Amiga days somewhere in my parents garage, along with a load of Edge magazines and some Spectrum one. Must dig them out again one day as they are great to flick through.
Wonderful looking back and remembering the first time I read some of them, and being amazed at what was on the horizon. -

Superplay Gold is possibly the best issue of any magazine, ever.

Registered 11 years agoHeh, not that they're really worth anything, but I've still got quite a few of those mags still stored in the loft at my Mum's place. I've got issue 1 of Mean Machines Sega (not the original Mean Machines), Mega, Mega Drive Advanced Gaming and Mega Tech - unfortunately they're not worth as much as I'd hoped.
I eBayed off issues 1-10 of DC-UK, Official Dreamcast Magazine and Dreamcast Magazine, although it was hardly worth the effort..gif)
Wow, Maximum - I'd completely forgotten about that one. I seem to remember it being a fairly lovely multi-format magazine. Arcade was also rather nice. -

Registered 9 years agoMean Machines was special. First magazine I really became a fan off. Writing letters, making fanzines. Thinking Rignall et all were really cool and how great it would be to work for Mean Machines etc..gif)
Good times. -

Registered 6 years agoWhat a wicked site, I'll keep an eye on that for more content in the future, there is a real lack of Speccy and Amiga mags there god dammit! DC-UK and Maximum were excellent mags, I remember picking up that Powerstone issue just before I got my first DC. Ah Memories of when the industry was a god I worshipped not the shitbag that I'm growing to hate now....
/ sniff
Funny this came up though, just yesterday I was in morrisons and for some reason flicking through a few mags thinking I should start getting a few again. I miss games mags. -
Annoying file format, what the fuck is wrong with a well tagged PDF?

Yeah, I used something called CDisplayEx, works well. Kinda freaky reading some of these again. It is really pathetically sad that I actually remember reading some of these mags?

edit: oops, wrong thread, but I'll leave it in here for anyone wanting an old-skool 'paper mag' fix. -

Registered 7 years agoI had a near complete set of Total! (Nintendo mag) which I chucked recently for want of space. Wish I'd donated them to these guys now. Proper golden era NES/SNES stuff, though in retrospect nowhere near as good as MM, Gamezone, CVG, Superplay etc. -

Registered 7 years agoThe PS1 era was the worst for magazines. Apart from OPM which was good, the rest were awful cheap bollocks. Edge was good as well but it was rare I could justify the cover price, esp as OPM was 5 quid a month. This was pre-mass internet as well, so it was a poverty of good writing all round. I used to get CVG 1998-99, but only because IIRC they dropped the price to 1.50 or something, which was well within my pocket money range. I remember seeing the first shots of Shenmue and Jet Set Radio and deciding that I HAD to get a DC. Got it out of my 18th birthday cash in the end. Happy days. -
C&VG was good in the 32/64bit days, used to love the yellow pullout in the centre.
