That "what we want" image is ridiculous. "We want all the benefits with no drawbacks and make it cheap". One of the most entitled rants I've ever seen.

You have to accept that there has to benefits for ALL sides, not just the consumer.

Yeah, it's really quite hilarious. It was thoroughly picked apart on reddit.

I don't have much faith that it'll ever be released.

In what way is that silly? It's a fair assessment of the XBone DRM plans.

Erm, if legislation is passed in the US, features like the Kinect monitoring will require an opt-in and:

"Since it would be an opt-in program, users who decline giving access to the company wouldn’t be denied access to the features that use the privacy-invading features. Instead, companies would be required to offer a new service that’s identical to the original service, but without the privacy concerns."

... still have to work anyway if you opt-out.

So they'd have to offer a service that listens all the time, without it listening all the time. Now that, that I want to see!

    Fucking paranoid nutters.

No company is ever going to give you what you want and that alone. Not one. There has to be profits and protections of profits before any product is created. You can't expect to have the convenience of discs and the better digital policies at the same time, as it's expensive to implement and makes it easier to hack. All it takes is someone to write code to make all games have both policies and work offline, and boom - piracy goes through the roof.

As for all this "but I want my games to work for future generations - plan better. Install the games that matter before the servers go down, you'll be surprised how few there'll be. Or, get PC versions cheap on Steam. There are always ways and means.

How much are you betting that the people who opt out will then complain their system won't work properly?

    .

I really think you can. It's not exactly moon on a stick stuff. If they can't make money offering their new system without first nerfing the old system then it stands to reason that it's not an improvement.

So, noone cares cares about Wii U now that new consoles are announced?

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

    Console market is dead?
    At its peak, customers pre-ordered 2,500 next-gen consoles a minute during E3.
Blimey! I think it's fair to say there's a lot of console gamers hungry for some new shiny after the 7-ish years of the current-gen and I'm unashamedly one of them :p.

I'd wager there's a fair few of those pre-order 'purchasers' looking for the definitive console versions of the likes of CoD and Battlefield, especially when they see the likes of the latter offering the full 64-player multiplayer, or the former offering advanced fish A.I. and a Dog.

@King_Edward I like how you conveniently cut the part that details how it would lead to piracy, as all hackers have to do is meld the code base. Nice.

Put simply: if you have both systems, then all someone has to do is remove the bit of code that identifies whether a game is installed from disc or downloaded, thus removing both the need for a 24-hour check-in and a disc in the tray. As you can't have a disc in the tray for a download, the obvious answer is to require the check-in. With that gone, we go back to the current, dev-unfriendly, store-driven method where buying a used game funds only the store you bought it at.

Yeah I don't get it either. PS3 and X360 sold 25m each in the last two years alone. Probably the same people that say PCs are dead or Apple is dead.
