If you base all your decisions on what Wikipedia says and never deviate or stop to ponder the matter yourself, then the Wii U is definitely next gen with no arguments.
Or if you look at every single console and what generation they belong to, since the NES, it's also definitely next gen with no arguments :D

And if we're going uber pedantic, the 8th gen started with the 3DS, before this thread was even made.

    So there.

Sorry, I forget sometimes there's no room for humour with these things.

Course there is, I made a hilarious reply to your OUYA question but no one laughed. Except me.

Ah, but the Dreamcast died some time before the Xbox was even released, and yet you're saying they're the same gen?

I never mentioned the Dreamcast. Confusion is now setting in :)

EDIT: My memory is not good enough to place the DC in it's correct generation I'm afraid. Old age, it's a bitch.

Titanfall is going to be a 1st gen game on an 8 gen console, and it's up against stiff competition in the form of Call of Duty Ghosts, which is a 1st gen game on two of the 8 gen consoles, a 2nd gen game on the other one, and a 7th gen game on the two remaining 7th gen consoles.

I was assuming logic on your belahf, as if you agree with the logic that WiiU is 8th gen, you have to agree that the Dreamcast was 6th, as it's the same argument.

Unless of course you think it was a gen of its own, in which case the Wii U is the 9th gen (with possibly the PS4 and XB1 being the 10th).

@kalel After refreshing my dates, yes, I agree with the logic that the DC was the same gen as the Xbox despite dying young. Had it been successful it would have continued to share the same shelf space during the same space of time competing with each other through until they all started to die off. RIP DC (my favourite console).

Heh - the DC had a better library than the original Xbox ever did.

So if the Wii U dies after say three years, but the others continue for seven or eight years, are they still the same gen? What about if Nintendo release another console during that period, and it's significantly more powerful than the PS4 and XB1?

And I still don't understand where the OUYA fits in.

it fits in a bin quite nicely.

Honestly I think the DC deserves a gen of its own. The Dreamcast gen. Best console ever.

Somebody should just draw a fucking line graph of the "Console Generations" before this shit gets out of hand!!

I believe that remote play with the ps4 is enabled from day one, unless it's changed and the old remote play was usable via the net so this one should be too. As always, internet connection and physical distance will dictate how enjoyable an experience that is for you.

I imagine you are right, seeing as the Vita and PS3 can do it right now.

Can't see internet remote play being good for any type of action game due to latency.

    According to Amazon:

Remote Play on the PS4 system fully unlocks the PlayStation Vita systemís potential, making it the ultimate companion device. With the PS Vita system, gamers will be able to seamlessly play a range of PS4 titles on the beautiful 5-inch display over Wi-Fi access points in a local area network.

Give yourself £5 or Ĺ gig, you're worth it.

Yeah it definitely does it over LAN, I'm just unsure whether it does it over the internet.

@kalel yeah, no mention of Internet streaming on that raises my doubt.

It was definitely highly implied you could do it in that early PS4 film with the Japanese girl who kept on playing the same game everywhere she went.

It's a weird one in that it's one of the few features that doesn't seem to have actually been confirmed. Just hinted at.

If you CAN do it btw, that presumably builds a decent case for buying the digital versions of games.

Phew! You can all relax! Found somebody else who had too much time on their hands to do a (albeit outdated) graph.

They even coloured that shit in and everything!

With the PS4 FAQ released yesterday and things such as no CD use, no MP3s and no streaming videos from another source does anyone have a comparison chart of things that ONE can do that PS4 can't in that regard?
