    Kalel nailed it.

    The whole system works on trust. You've given them permission to charge you, and they can do that whenever they feel like it. You only have legs if they charge you more than was originally agreed/ have already charged you.

    There may well be some sort of legal precedent out there testing this, but I may be wrong.

    Yeah I suspect they can, although I feel it's not really on to come along this late after the event.

    I'll write back to grumble a bit and hopefully get something towards another stay.

    Tone your grumbling towards "this has left me in a difficult position and I hope you can help", as opposed to "you're cunts and I demand compensation or else" if you can. Works better.
