RPS have a story up on LA hiring on a "aerial combat game".

    http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/09/15/might-be-tie-fightin-lucasarts-hiring/

In the requirements one line REALLY shouts out "It's coming back guys!"

"Experience with flight sims, aerial shooters, and especially space-based shooters a plus"

God I hope it turns out to be a new x-wing/TIE fighter!!!!!

Yeah, that'd be great. I loved how, in X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, as you played the game, the entire Star Wars soundtrack was the soundtrack to the game.

And you could put the game disc in your cd-player and it'd work as a music cd.

    Great stuff...

LOL with the current state of the industry it wouldn't surprise me :)

Actually they are also working on an FPS and an action adventure to, so there are 3 games coming from them.

Bets on it being set in the prequels.

The iMuse system was truly great and really added to the immersion.

And frankly, Xwing vs Tie Fighter stands up brilliantly even today.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

Well, let's hope they keep up the high standards of The Force Unleashed 2, their most recent game.

Yeah, if this ain't Naboo fighters and the other prequel ships I'd be surprised. Although, TBH, the Clone Wars might not be all that bad a setting for a Star Wars space game. Let them iron out the kinks in that setting before bringing back the real deal.

Prequel space game for the 3D cinema launches, OT space game for when the OT gets the 3D release.

Tie Fighter remains one of my most favourite PC games of all time, especially with the add-ons. Could do without the horrifying escort missions though.

I'd rather GOG or someone just fixed the original so that it ran on modern machines.

I think it probably needs a full on update. Modern GFX, especially lighting, would make more awesome. Not to mention perks for MP, gotta have perks.

Yippee!!! Causes damage to enemy pilots from self-inflicted teeth gnashing wounds

Tie Fighter is still the best in the series. Hunting down the rogue admiral for Thrawn in the expansion was the absolute tits. I would literally kill for a modern remake.

ESPECIALLY if I can get an awesome flight stick to go with.

Do they not work then? I've been thinking of hunting them down but not got round to it with my backlog.

The days when a static screen - Hand of the Emperor - would make hours of gaming seem like a worthwhile achievement.

That's because Lucas killed the movies dead with the prequels so games are they only way Star Wars fans can get their Star Wars fix. :)

The original DOS versions are piss easy to get working (in DOSBox, obviously). The Win95 ports and Alliance however are another story. Alliance especially usually needs texture mods to work on modern machines.

How do you emulate joysticks that relied on the game port found on soundcards at the time?

    DOSBox handles that too.

Yeah might head to Ebay and pick 'em up. What's the difference between the DOS versions and the win95 versions meme? It is just the operating systems they are for or will I miss anything going for the easier to get working DOS versions?
