    I like the skill tree and its crazy amounts of passive bonuses... I just wish that they weren't ALL passive bonuses. It would be nice to have some top-tier character abilities spattered at the extremes of the... tree? Sphere?

    Haven't looked at it in a while, but might be worth taking another plunge until D3 1.04 comes along.

    Now with 80% more Cthulhu!

    Had a pop on this, still not sure about the graininess of the grahpics but mechanics wise very interesting design decisions - and i eevn had to make some hard choices about gear within the first hour.

    combat isn't as punchy and fluid as D3 but as a sort of tweaked d2 it was fun and has really got the loot twitch going

    so, liking this more and more.

    turned a plain old white bow with nice slots into an epic bow of amazatron stats with one of the upgrade loot drops.

    a reason to use 'trash' drops, brilliant.

    Having a blast playing this. There are so many great ideas, it's staggering that an 18-person indie development team from New Zealand has outdone Blizzard in basic ARPG systems - itemisation, character progression, build diversity and endgame content. All of that while dumping the RMAH, dumping gold as a currency, and being free-to-play with no pay-to-win.

    The combat needs the most work, and graphically it's not a showstopper, but the basic systems are there, and they're great.

    YEah ranged combat seems a lot less clunky than melee from my time with it so far. Even with ranged i am getting occasions of arrows not hitting or quite aiming as i intended.

    That aside though I agree totally with you the systems behind the (somewhat dour) graphics are brilliant and show just how wrong Blizzard got it.

    I was so hyped up for D3 and enjoyed it like some sort of sugar rush but the AH and loot systems really have ruined the game.

    In many more ways PoE feels like an actual succesor to D2.

    still playing this it really is excellent, looking forward to the open beta in a few weeks and my char not being wiped ever again (hopefully)

    I am only not playing it anymore right now so that I am not totally burnt out once it actually launches without wipes - it certainly has come a long way in the past year or so since I first played it.

    Do you know if they will have new content at the start of the beta or the launch, shamblemonkee?

    Right, cheers! Alpha testers seemed extremely impressed with act 3 (but weren't at liberty to say anything specific), but I wasn't sure it would be ready for the open beta.

    Really curious how they will integrate new content in the coming years, and whether the game will hold enough people's interest long enough, respectively if enough people will pay for the cosmetic stuff. I am certainly ready to do so, I've already had more fun with the beta than I paid for with my Kiwi pack. :)

    Nice.

    I made a character for the latest hardcore race a day or so after it had started. Logged on, made it to level 2, got a message in chat that character XY has "just reached lvl 66". :p

    I died 20 minutes later.

    Ha, i've not tried any races so far so am not sure just how quickly osme people can whizz through the level but 66 in two days is pretty mental - i've got a range of about 5 characters:- the most developed is a Lightning Strike sword and board Ranger - i've put maybe 20hours in on her and she's level 39.

    I've mostly been playing various 'classes' and builds working out which seems most fun and viable going forwards after open beta.

    my current favourite is a dual weild claw witch with arc (yes i always get drawn into trying to make unpopular builds work :))

    REally looking forward to the open beta and hoping that this game gets the support it deserves, it's by no means perfect but it is so much more along the lines of what i think everyone was expecting from Diablo 3 that it deserves recognitions, especially as it's coming from a small indie crew.

    Yeah, I hope it is a success as well, it really deserves it. I've been pretty critical of the game in the past, but it has improved just so much in the last year. I just hope they improve the sword+board skills a bit, 2H is just more fun at the moment.

    Regarding the races, unfortunately people cheat atm - or, to be more polite, exploit game mechanics if they have multiple accounts, but I hope that gets ironed out.

    Bonus in the patch with the open beta: armour will look shinier! \o/

    It really isn't buggy - not seen anything major (let alone had a crash) in ages. Seeing how there will be no more character wipes after tomorrow, you might as well see it as the launch. They will keep on balancing it, but that will never stop I guess.

    Honestly, if you like your loot-em-ups, there's no reason not to start playing tomorrow.
