This is a great opportunity for you to show your friends the Path of Exile Beta and play alongside them while exploring the new updates. We're hosting four developer-run events at various times over the weekend, so you can show off the skills you developed playing earlier versions of the Beta too.
We're opening up the Path of Exile Beta to everyone this weekend, March 30-April 1, so that we can stress-test our servers in preparation for entering Open Beta in a few months. This Open Weekend is the ideal time to invite your friends to play the game with you.
Last week we deployed the 0.9.7 Beta patch, adding over a dozen new skills and pushing six weeks of incremental improvement to the Beta servers. We've tuned the balance to be more challenging and want your feedback on these changes. This week we will deploy 0.9.8, which adds more skills, new social functionality and further balance improvements.
Due to the recent balance changes, we're going to migrate all existing Beta characters and items to the Legacy League (like we did with 0.9.5 in late December) so that there's a fresh economy and ladder in both the Default and Hardcore leagues.

Amazing and rather worrying, considering the size of the skill tree is already beyond intimidating.Now with 80% more Cthulhu!

The skilltree is a bit of a swindle, though - it's only passive skills and attributes, and lots of the knots on different points of the board give you the same stat. It's still fun, but it's a bit more complicated than it needs to be.

I really enjoyed the open weekend, hopefully I'll get a chance to get into the closed beta at some point. It's given me the itch for this sort of game so I started Titan Quest again but it feels so slow after playing Path of Exile and Torchlight. -

Registered 10 years agoA friend and I picked up beta keys for this, and it's great fun. The skill tree is incredibly intimidating, but the combat is excellent. It feels like Diablo 2 does in your memories, without the lag spikes, the juddery update and the slowdown. I can fill the screen with projectiles and explosions without any bother! -

Funny little dig at Blizzard in the latest patch notes:
""Confirmed that the increased item rarity bonus for Large Chests was working correctly. Then we doubled it.""
Anyway, quite a massive update, with random maps as endgame content. The game looks good, has a great passive skill tree, a lot of neat little ideas, but I still think the combat is rather anemic and wooden. It's such a great game for theory-crafting, it just isn't a lot of fun to actually *play*. :-/ -
