Registered 6 years agoas you quite rightly pointed out to me last year shamble, this is brilliant :> -
Played for 20 minutes last night and found a legendary ring, at lvl 2 or so.
Going for a sword/shield marauder, which isn't a particularly clever idea, but aesthetics > efficiency. -

Registered 8 years agoyeah i played a couple hours last night, got my Shadow to Act2 with a fairly standard energy shield and evasion build using viper strike, flicker and whirling blades.
working great so far except for some nasty lags spikes.

Registered 10 years agoWow, this is pretty damn solid for an FTP game that came out of nowhere.
Technically it's nothing dazzling (though solid enough) but the mechanics are pretty damned amazing.
The passive skill tree and especially the gem system make me wonder why other hack and slash/arpg games DIDN'T take this approach. Sheer genius! -

Registered 4 years agoTell me about it, I've been downloading since this morning and it's not gone above 15kbps/sec. Nightmare.
They put out a torrent, but noone seems to be seeding it so that's about as much use as a chocolate kettle. Now with 80% more Cthulhu!

Registered 8 years agoI may never find out.... not leaving my laptop on for 10 days to get this downloaded -
Deleted at level 5. Got tired standing on a beach swinging a mace and not hitting anything.
Put me in the mood to fire up D3 for the first time in God knows. -

Registered 8 years agoyou guys are mental -
The hardcore and default ladders with 15,000 slots each filled up pretty quickly, with rank 15,000 on default being a level 25 character. 15,000 people level 25 and higher is pretty insane for 24 hours, and the HC ladder looks similar.

Registered 4 years agoI basically stopped playing last weekend as there was going to be the big character wipe (no point playing it all again I suppose). Will start again this weekend I think. I thought it was good but not great in the couple of hours I played. The skills are obviously arranged in a different way, which is cool, but I need to see that it has something genuinely different to offer and isn't just different for the sake of it. -

Registered 8 years agoWell I switched my laptop on this morning and it started downloading at 800kbps which is pretty much my top speed, so should be done when I get home
Probably as the yanks are in bed -
@hypoBla5t It gets only better the longer you play once you have a few active skills and support gems and you have developed the character a little in the direction you want. Act 2 is also more impressive than 1 (and act 3 even more so, allegedly), and the game truly starts to shine in the higher difficulties, with tons of rare mobs and hordes of normal mobs that can kill you anytime if you're not careful.
The reason for the skills system is pretty simple: they can add new and tweak active and supports skills anytime without ruining people's characters, and it gives you flexibility how you want to play. -

Registered 8 years agodidn't even consider HC mode heh, (12 deathson SC confirms that's for the best!) I made it to Act III last night (lvl29) and that sure is a step up.
The game does intentionally start slowly but does consistently reward progress.
RNG can really change how you progress if not doing an entirely on build spec, i've still yet to find a few gems that would make my life easier.

I think my HC character will be transferred to SC soon enough, but atm it's going well. Only lvl 18 or so, mind. I got pretty lucky with drops for a while though, but my gear is falling behind a bit now. Molten shell(temporary armour thingy which explodes after a while) has proven to be a Godsend against the damn monkeys - I just "collect" as many as possible, and they all die in the blast.
What's your character's name, shamblemonkee (so I can send you a friend request)?

Registered 6 years agohow anyone can think this is shit is beyond me, graphically d3 wins hands down but the backend engine in poe is fantastic.
only lvl 12 frost Witch so far, only thing that bugged me slightly lastnight was the timeout on the instances. Spent a little too long sorting bits in town so ended up having to port and run through the wardens instance again, timeout is around 8-10 minutes.
if any1 is up for some MP tonight/over weekend give us a shout.

Registered 8 years agoFinally picked up the Lightning Strike gem but eff me if the game doesn't immediately throw elemental resist + chaos resist enemies as me so i even struggle using old reliable Viper Strike.
I'm sure there are builds which would just smash through this stuff but it's really making my Evasion, LoH Shadow work for it (build: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgYABbUOSBB7ES8ZhiLqKwosRjY9PL1AVVBCYeJvV4hrm7WiLqc0tMW29746wQDDOs3q1CPbGt533vbjhOd06NbrFOss9Us=).
I'm just transition from ES+EV to pure EV hence the weird nodes for ES & ev in there
Crematoriums and Sewers can suck it
.
Seriously - difficulty so far very well pitched, everything is defeat-able so long as you pay attention, don't rush and generally play smart, which is as it should be (even if i do miss the cake walk that was my fork, iron grip LS Ranger in the closed beta.

Always found it difficult with a Shadow to get any AoE working, or to find spells that suit a dual wield melee build. Definitely one of the more challenging classes!

Registered 8 years agoYeah, Whirling blades may suck for DPS but when combined with claws for the life leech it's just about viable -
Had a quick blast on this at lunch-time. Seems like fun and I need to move on from Torchlight 2 - I'm getting cold sweats at the thought of locking myself into that build system though.

@Bedders it's not so bad if you consider that a standard build will mostly venture inside is third of the pie.
not a bad idea to spend some time looking at it and at least formulating a basic plan of what style you'd like to play -
