I'm 99.9% certain Xseed are bringing this over to the US. Not sure about Europe yet... maybe Ghostlight? :)

It looks like a horror visual novel, kind of like 999, but without puzzles I think. You still make decisions though that affect the game and influence where the story branches.

Trailer is pretty creepy... I like it...

Ha, yeah, that's another way of putting it!
  • Deleted user 31 August 2011 22:25:12
    Hmm.

Could be interesting, but I was secretly hoping the horror game was a reference to either Night of the Sacrifice or even Dangan Ronpa, which has had a sequel recently announced.

Here's a bit of a taster of what the game will be like

Basically, its like a 16-bit RPG but without the battles, and more emphasis on choice

PSN release only makes me sad, I'd rather have a physical copy. Still hyped though.

Noted and added to the B-Game Primer.

I like the sprites. I don't like the portraits.

However I'm sold on buying it for Vita when XSEED's Tom Lipschultz mentioned Clock Tower and Shadows of Memories in the blog comments.

I am really looking forward to this one. I'm hoping for a December EU release so I can play it over the uni break (and freak myself out completely). It's one of those games that I've been curious about for years so I'm glad that I'll finally get a chance to play it.

Haha, thanks! I've actually read bits and pieces on the site for years but I never got round to checking out the forums or signing up for an account (which is a terrible admission to make!). A Corpse Party is a great way to celebrate joining. :D

There's a review up of the game here (they use some Japanese screenshots but it is the US version they're reviewing): http://www.justpushstart.com/2011/11/27/corpse-party-review/

I've played some this. It is very very good, a lot better than I expected it to be.

It's quite hard though, as the review above suggests. Dead ends (or wrong ends) galore.
It's not always obvious where you have to go, but I like that, suits the theme of the game, a horrible nightmare world you can't seem to escape from.

It certainly is no visual novel that's for sure. And it really is quite creepy and disturbing.

Oh, and the sound design and voice acting is great. This must be played with headphones on (and preferably at the dead of night with the lights off).

Oh, so you've actually played it already then? I'd like to hear any more impressions you'd like to share. :) I only played the PC demo ages ago, and I seem to remember the thing you had to do to avoid the bad end for that chapter was really minor and easy to miss. I agree that it makes sense, though, in context. I do hope SCEE approve the game quickly - I really am looking forward to this one. I've also seen that screenshot of the kid about to be got in the back of the head floating around for years now and I need to know what happens, dammit!

I definitely want to try out that '3D sound' effect, but I may have to keep the sidelight on. I freaked myself out with Theresia (and creepy books like the Woman in Black) so I dread to think what something properly scary would do to me!

Well, I've only played a bit, still on chapter 1 :)

The only other things I can add is that the characters are great and a lot more interesting than the usual RPG cast, they all seem to have psychological flaws but likeable at the same time.
Also, the atmosphere of the game is spot on.

It reminds me a little of Japanese horrors like Ringu and Dark Water.
    It's that level of creepiness.

Some of the sense of humour is quite, erm, strange as well.

Yes. Probably for the best. The press will most likely not see it (OMG! Think of the children!!!) and it brings the price down - sort of.
