Considering buying a Vita just for this as I'm currently living in Canada and away from my games consoles. Worth it? (I know the game is excellent but is the Vita?)

The hardware is excellent, very comfortable to use. Persona 4 is a good 100 hour-plus game in this form, but even then I wouldn't say "buy a Vita" if that's all you're going to get. Were there any other games you were interested in? My personal threshold for a system purchase is five games I want to play. Does it meet that?

To be honest I haven't looked at anything else. Is P3 FES available? I'd also probably play the MGS HD collection.

But apart from those I don't even know any other vita games.

Persona 3 Portable is a PSP game, so it should be playable on Vita, though I don't think it has the extra scenario from FES - though it does have the option to play as the female protagonist.

It all depends on what you're up for playing, really. Everyone will have their own recommendations; personally, I've played nearly 300 hours of PSP and PSV RPGs since I got the system. See if you can get to a place which still has a demo unit with stuff loaded. As brutally simplistic as it may seem, have a look through the Sony Vita games list to see what is out there. There's more coverage than you might think, and if you're stuck without consoles it might be the best way for you get "big" games without worrying about getting your consoles sent over. With this winter's Sony games you'll be able to get both versions in one package as well, though it remains to be seen how they will present that - it might be a bit tricky if you have an out-of-region PSN account.

Watch out for online passes, too, as they will only work with the same region PSN account, though the game card will work fine and you can purchase stuff through PSN across regions no bother as long as you can get points cards.

I'd also suggest looking at the 3DS as it has a great lineup (in Japan at least), but if you're abroad then there will be bother with region locking as imported games don't work at all.

    Thanks for the helpful post.

I actually have a 3DS. Bought it last year over here but I've only got Zelda for it and I'm not that interested in any other games for it!

No bother. In Canada, Toys R Us have apparently started doing an offer with a game and an 8GB memory card for $250, which seems like a good deal if you can get it. If there's one near you it might be worth popping down and seeing if you can have a play around.

They've said there would be no price cut, but then, Nintendo said there would be no 3DS XL during E3 this year.

edit: Of course it would be foolish to ignore the uncertain future of the machine in the West. Think about how much you would be "down" if six months passed and you decided that there was nothing worthwhile coming out for ages. I'm happy with this year's release schedule in Japan (DJ Max, Ys, Zero no Kiseki, EDF 3 at the very least before the end of October) but then I have weird taste in games.

From what I can see I can play my PSone classics that I've bought on my PS3 yeah? Even if I didn't buy any actual Vita titles I think that would be hours of gaming right there. then with both Personas I'd be pretty much set for a year.

I'll check out Toy r Us, I actually live 5 minutes from a gigantic one, so hopefully I'll get my hands on one.

Not yet, that's being added with new firmware on the 28th, and the way they worded one of the announcements it may not be all of them at once. It might be worth hanging fire to see if all your existing purchases are compatible, but if it is like PSP games, then all existing games should transfer across as long as they are Vita certified.

Ah, I see. As long as my FF titles are there I should be happy.

That said can I have multiple accounts on my vita like on my PS3, and is it relatively painless to switch between them?

Not on one memory card, no. You have to swap memory cards and wipe the system memory if you want to change between them. There's a method out there which makes it relatively painless, but you would still have trophy/friends list issues. Probably the most annoying thing about the Vita, there are a couple of games I couldn't buy because of it.

That'd get annoying. I have some of my PSone games on my US and some on my EU account. Guess I'd just have to choose one or the other, no big deal. Will hopefully get to try one out tomorrow and see what I think of it. Thanks again for your help man!

Got to play with a bit today. Seems a nice piece of kit, not too sure how the back touchscreen works though as my fingers naturally sit there to steady it. Don't know if that would effect gameplay or not.

The Toys R Us deal is pretty decent for over here. It's 250 and you get a free game (Reality Fighters, Little Deviants or The Show) and an 8gb card. Not pushed on the games but I think the card is a pretty good deal. Tempted to buy it...

And not a moment too soon. I've had a fine run with the great games released to date on the Vita, but this is pretty much the game that sold me on getting one in the first place. Can't wait!

Think it's a few quid cheaper if you order from the VGP site itself though.

Has P4G been conclusively, 100 percent verified by the publisher as being region free? Whilst I don't wish to doubt an eBay seller unnecessarily, I would hate to have a nasty surprise seeing as Persona Arena IS region locked.
