Just did the game boss at the 5th attempt. Brutal stuff. Had a few slivers of hp left for all characters after a few resurrections, next attack either way would have done it, got the fucker with my last go before his turn.

    Retro game boss down. \o/

Took about 80 odd minutes and a fuck ton of items. It was worth it though for the scene that followed.

Now to spend a fortune replacing all the items. :)

Yeah, he was a sod. Perhaps I was too cautious which prolonged the fight. I used plenty of buffs and Yukiko used media pretty much every round. Worked for me.

I never realised when I first played it that what I thought was the bad ending was actually the neutral ending. :p

I just turned Yukiko down at social link 9. Concerned now that I won't be able to progress to 10.

Lol so did i. Just shows the character models are done really well. You can do them all at the same time though. I was gutted when i found out. I'm going for the true ending next play through so i'll do them all.

I threw the towel in at the "game" boss. A combo of gaming apathy and rage got the better of me.

Wrong game I know - but I just finished the "bad" ending of Persona 3. Ummm....wow? As soon as I finished that ending I am absolutely compelled to see the "good" one and am working towards that.

Spoiler: It's kinda incredible that it has the courage to end with a whimper if you choose that bad ending. You spend the last hour or so thinking about making a decision and unable to dungeon crawl or fight any bosses or any combat "heightening" the decision. It;s just conversation, and then it just...ends, with all the characters incredibly happy but facing certain death - missing the memories that defined them for the past year. It's like they've become "the lost" by choosing ignorance but they are all the happier for it even though something is missing - becoming what they fought against. Haven't been that emotionally affected by an ending in ages. Wonder what the good ending will be like?

All in all the game has blown me away and generally I hate JRPGs besides Grandia back in the day, it's been a real breath of fresh air. The story has subtlety, subtext, and the game mechanics actually fit with the themes of the game. I love it. I am really tempted to play Persona 4 now straight off. I did play it on easy (not beginner though). And it got quite challenging towards the end - think maybe normal would be a bit tricky for me.

If anyone hasn't played it I would totally recommend it. 40+ hours well spent.

Sort of in the same boat here. Definitely killed momentum. Anyone got strategies to share?

    What level are you?

For the first time in the game, during that boss fight I started using items. Diamond shields were useful to quickly increase defence for the party without using SP. When he was starting to build his armour back up I hit him with items that cause a guaranteed 150 + damage, which should stop him changing again.

It still took a long time. I used Yukiko to keep the party alive and to remove negative status effects.

@spleendonkey Yeah, Persona 3 is a fantastic game. I'd say you're almost guaranteed to love P4 if you enjoyed P3, since it's more of the same generally, albeit with a much lighter tone. The story isn't nearly as good (IMO), but it has one of the most likeable casts in gaming history and some much-needed upgrades to the game mechanics (although if it was P3P you played, most were backported into that anyway).

This too. Yukiko has a handy ability to take away all negative status effects.

I'm fairly sure I was about level 46 when I beat him, so maybe a bit of grinding would be useful. I firmly believe that stopping him regenerating his armour is the best tactic, as it leaves him open for another all out attack.

    @elvenscroll

used yukiko, teddie and yosuke. equipped healthy recipe and brave vessel (or what they're called) for the fear and exhaustion. used only medium magic spells and healed when necessery. teddie's mediarama was very handy. when the shell is gone and he uses a coloured barrier he will continue to use that magic so I made sure to equip MC with a persona that's not weak to it and have any other character weak to it guard. i was lucky in that noone was weak (he used wind magic). instead yosuke refilled the others' SP with items. he got his shell up two or three more times but i managed...
did help to have MC with nevrundi (for exhaustion), me patra (for fear) and recarm (yukiko died once).

i guess the key was to always have everyone healed and free of ailments and have patience. also used a bunch of items and spells to give the party some extra defence whenever he used gigadyne. might have helped.
