Is there any way to book tickets for the sessions or is it a case of queueing up for a year beforehand?

    sort off.

it's more of the developers giving their in-sight on their upcoming release game. Like going into more detail, going into the background in gaming industry or development.

Only useful for people looking to work in the gaming industry or working in the gaming industry. And also for people who are die hard fans of the developer/ game or dying to know more about the game.

I imagine the lead designer being wheeled out on a Hannibal Lecter style trolley.

I think if you have any broader view on gaming than just playing the games, the dev sessions can be pretty interesting... from the ones I attended over the last few years, the guys and gals presenting get a chance to speak about their games, and the audience usually get a chance to ask some questions. They are a nice insight into what the people making games think about their games and about what they think about games more broadly.

Obviously some of them are more technical than others, but I'd recommend trying to go and see a dev sesh if you have even a passing interest about the brains behind the games you love (or hate!). Heavy Rain hadn't been released when David Cage gave his talk a couple of years ago, but it was still fascinating to get an insight into some of the processes the studio went through, and to get a broader idea of what he thought about the state of gaming. I don't even own a PS3, and haven't to this day played Heavy Rain, but the talk was informative, relaxed and made a nice change from the noise of the show floor.

Upwards of an hour. There was at least one occasion though last year where I came out of one session, walked right to the end of the queue for the next session and was back inside the conference room in something like a quarter of an hour. It's all good though, as you get free TShirts while you're waiting :)

I'm going to see the Prey 2 and Tim Willets developer sessions tomorrow and the Uncharted 3 session on friday :)

Did anyone actually go to this one? Or are they still in boredom induced comas? :D

The Prey 2 session was a lot of fun as was Tim Willets :) The Ask Eurogamer panel was good fun to, especially once people other than the guy sitting near the front wearing the hat started asking questions too :D
