I've always thought males were the fairer sex. After all, we are the ones that let women do our washing up and stick the kettle on out of the kindness of our hearts. You can't be fairer than that surely?

    Surely?

So 29th year a row that A-level results have surpassed the previous year. Are the education systems really improving that dramatically?

Also read about a pair of students who between them got 13 A*. I can't believe the courses are that tough if you can do six of them, let a lone so successfully.

    Really?

When I did A-Levels we were restricted to taking 3 subjects (maximum) as well as a compulsory General Studies AS-Level. 13 grades between two people seems... excessive. Or am I just really, really old and things have massively changed since I was in school?

Probably pushy parents, but the article said it was 13 A-levels between two 18 year olds (one took eight and got straight A*s). They also took a host of As. I can't believe you'd have the time to study those, let alone master them, if they were anything like the high-school courses I took - which admittedly were in Canada. I took the equivalent of 3 A-Levels and 4 AS during my IB. Admittedly is marked relative to every other student in the world (top ten percent getting an "A") and you have to undertake a set number of extra-curricula activities, but still...

iI thought the big news this year was that, against all expectations, results hadn't actually got any better than last year, at least as far as A and A* results are concerned. Of course, B and below results are better than last year, and also the gap between boys and girls has lessened.

Not necessarily. Although some variants of Hinduism believe in God directly directly affecting outcomes, others see karma as simply a cause and effect thing. You do things, and you feel the effect of them later on. Or when you're reborn into your next life, if you believe in that. It's the universe righting itself.

I've always viewed Karma as a "poetic justice" type thing. You do bad things, and they come back and bite you in the arse one way or the other. It's often more a case of social justice rather than random coincidence.
