How the hell could Labour have chosen Ed Milliband? As much as a shame as it is that politics is largely about personality and charisma, that's the way it is nowadays and Labour have entirely been monumentally stupid or have deliberately shot themselves in the foot by making Ed their leader.

    Formerly TheStylishHobo and Geesh.

@Geesh Previously I have also wondered, but today he produced an excellent performance that actually gives me hope that he might be able to beat Cameron.

Without wanting to turn this into the Politics Thread, judging by the Independent on Sunday the other day, it won't happen. Secret talks have been going on to make a coalition between the Tories and the Lib-Dems permanent, even in the event of a Labour majority in another hung parliament. The Lib-Dems would go through the motions of looking like they are having talks with Labour, but will ultimately side with the Tories again. Apparently the orange-book lot (under David Laws) have decided that the LDs have more in common with the Conservatives, and a merger is an option.

If that actually happens, I'm out of the party and joining the Greens.

I suspect he used his sicky to go to the casino and someone used his phone to send out some nonsense.
He'll be back shortly to clarify.

Surely a large chunk of the LD would never agree to a merger/effective merger with the Tories?

It all just means we have to vote Labour.

Personally I don't see the Conservatives going for it either.

It would be a desperate cling to power, which given the failings of the coalition I doubt either of them want.

Personally a link up with Labour seems much more likely.

Hmm. Has the same person ever been deputy PM with both Labour AND the Tories?

I don't see Labour needing LD support come next election. I think the LD's are going to get wiped out in the main going on how I hear most LD supporters talking about them these days. I think the defectors from the LD's will mostly go Labour. The Tories will I think also do badly which leaves Labour easily being able to form a majority government.

What a fucking depressing situation. Depressing in that whoever wins we look like losing.

Well frankly a Labour victory will be a victory. Flawed as they may be, they will struggle to do worse than a coalition that is making cuts whilst borrowing is simultaneously going up!

The key is how electable Miliband is, if people are unsure they might vote Lib Dem to stop a Tory majority. But if he can prove he is a leader (which he went a LONG way to doing yesterday) then people will desert the LD in droves I think.

I think the issue is with Labour they won't have been out of power long enough. It's largely the same people everyone was sick of last time around.

    Oh and Keith fucking Vaz.
