There's no reason not to play multiplayer really, it's only a server rolling through a bunch of maps with a live leaderboard.

I think I'm missing your point Res (assuming you were referring to my post).

The point is that you don't need to limit yourself to the 65 official maps, the online mode is pretty much identical to the single player game. The only changes are that you've got a leaderboard updating live, a rolling set of maps, and of course the ghost cars of the other players on the server - disabled by pressing O.

I'm familiar with multiplayer mode. The significant difference between individual play (be it on official tracks or user-made tracks from authors I've learnt to appreciate) and multiplayer is that the former comes with consistently well designed tracks, whereas in my experience with the latter the good ones are often buried under a multitude of tracks with questionable design decisions.

I occasionally venture online to discover some new gem to download or eventually have some light-hearted fun with the silliest designs, but in general I prefer individual play mode as I find it provides on average a more enjoyable experience.

Just go on official (Ubisoft) servers, they serve tracks from Nadeo / the single-player portion.

I usually play both though, getting some medals sorted on a few more tracks, interspersed with some official times, then play some multiplayer.

Sorry, it just sounded like you didn't even bother trying the multiplayer, which is understandable, considering the communities most multiplayer modes house.

I find having the live leaderboard multiplayer provides much more entertaining that going up against the massive leaderboard full of people who have been running over the same track for hours perfecting their line, leaving me with the near impossible task of beating them (without additional hours of tedium).

@[maven]: During beta Nadeo servers carried a selection of user-made maps, which wasn't bad. If they're gone official maps only, I guess I'll miss the novelty factor but it still remains a good compromise. Not many reasons to go multi just to play the single player maps though.
EDIT: I read Nadeo servers instead of Ubisoft.

@Res: I see your point, I generally look at my position on individual play leaderboards only as a general indication of my progress in "learning" the track, but it's indeed refreshing to compete on performances done in a limited amount of time here and there.

Anyway, I've joined the group (does it give me powers?).

Spent the last couple of nights playing this on the big screen, staying up far too late, with my eyes melting! Awesome game, loving it, the drift is just so right.

Not done any solo player at all, just jump on a multiplayer beginners track set and race away. Got my first podium finish last night, followed by my first first, chuffed.

Far prefer playing with the 360 pad, but by god you need a mouse handy to get through the menus. Possibly the worst interface design ever.

Looking forward to seeing what can be done with the scripting engine and what people come up with. Hope its heavily mod-able, as there's a few ideas I had.

Is there a way to switch of names above cars? Its nice having all the cars on track at once, but I keep hiding all ghosts, as the names obscure to much of the track ahead.

Ideally each time you start a lap, I would like to pick a ghost and race it. That way you could pick the next fastest ghost, race it, and if you beat it race the next fastest, till your racing the number 1.

The key to the left of '1' turns off player names.

Just made it into the top 100 in the UK and 11th in Scotland. Bloody great game, shame there aren't more British folk playing it. Haven't found a British clan yet either!

Will there be a disc release?
Or will I have to pay the rrp from the ubisoft download server?

I feel truly sorry for this game you know. It's utterly superb but it seems like Ubisoft are determined to let Nadeo fail.

I've been playing on and off continuously since release, I even made it to number 10 in the UK and held the top spot in Scotland for about 2 months.

However it's simply not worth playing any more because the player numbers have dropped off so significantly getting a good competitive server with more than 20 people in it is very rare, even at peak times.

It was released and shown absolutely no love.

I doubt we'll see anything from Nadeo again.

Trackmania United has 11 MILLION registered players, why hasn't that converted over to Trackmania 2 which has an 81% approval rating on Metacritic and a reasonable price point of £20?

    What's happened!?

What happened? Well I could only buy it from Ubi or direct from Nadeo. So I didn't.

Surely it's in both the companies interests to realise that deployment strategy didn't work and make rapid movements to make it available elsewhere.

Why have a game with say 1 million active players and you're new shiny expansion ready game sitting with an active player base of maybe 5,000!? Why were no attempts made?

Bit harsh tbh. It's a very good game IMO.

I was on a server with 50+ people on at peak time and one with 20+ at 7am, admittedly there was only a choice of one or two but still an addictive and exciting game.

I'm Bealsy on it. I'd be up for a session, only picked it up on Steam last night and still trying to get to grips with the useless menu system. Love the game though.
