So what do you guys think of the beta?

I love it so far and here's why:

    * The drift feeling and sense of speed is awesome
    * The game is really very well optimized, for me it runs at about same fps as TMNF/TMUF but looks much better!
    * They kept most of what made TMUF/TMNF awesome

Some things I don't like so much:

    * It has some of the same problems the prequels has, like other cars stuttering forward if they have bad ping to me
    * Can't stabilize the car in mid air by tapping brake, no biggie really
    * Rankings doesn't seem to work on rounds-servers

That said, the game really needs some GOOD tracks, but that'll come naturally in time!

Buy the game and you get beta access.

I'm downloading atm, bit slow though. Wonder when TM-Exchange for this will launch.

The beta has track editor, car editor and online multiplayer. No single player or local multiplayer (they finally implemented splitscreen! too bad it's not in the beta)

Download didn't go slow at all for me. But it did suck it up and bought the game at (sorry for cursing) UbiShop because the maniaplanet shop was overloaded and put me in some queue for like an hour before I couldn't wait any longer!

Yeah, I went to buy it and saw it was only available on the UbiShop... Fuck that.

    ONLY UbiShop? What about maniaplanet?

Yeah... I'm not crazy about having yet another source of downloadable games. It's bad enough I'm having to use Origin for BF3.

Well they'll probably/hopefully release it on steam later like they did with the older trackmanias so you won't miss out. :)

Atleast there's no separate client I need to have running besides Steam to use the game, but your right it sure would be nice to have all games on Steam, I do have about 98% of my games on Steam tho so it's all fine, I can live with using the developers own homepages for downloading Starcraft II, Trackmania II and Minecraft which is the only non-steam games I own. :)

Just had a quick blast. Runs very smoothly. I like. Might get back into it like in my old TMU days. Used to love the Island environment, this is similar but a bit more technical.

    Powerslides feel great too.

I was never a big fan of the Island environment, but still it was second best after Stadium. I like TM2 Canyon a lot so far, it has a better feel than Island and hits that "Stadium" nerve of mine but has speed closer to Island which is nice. I'd still like them to release a proper "sequel" to Stadium, even tho I owned TMUF I played Stadium like 99% of the time. :)

Has anybody had any trouble creating an account on this? A mate just bought this and he keeps getting an error when trying to create the account.

Oh no. As if I wasn't spending enough time on PC games.
How much is it on Ubisoft site?

Btw, I just checked and it doesn't matter that I bought the game from UbiShop as everyone who owns the game can download it from http://player.maniaplanet.com/

My first go at building a track in the beta. Need to change up the finish a bit so you can't jump over it.

What happens? I had problems too but that was because I already had the account for TMNF. I just had to have the correct username and password when creating a new account and then voila! (uppercase and lowercase seem to matter in the creation process).

To clarify, is this game only coming out as a download title and you guys are not just talking about preorders and betas?

If you buy the game now as a digital download, you get beta access immediately, otherwise it's out on the 14th.

Anyone having trouble connecting to servers?

Had a blast with this for a couple of hours last night, it was great fun never seeing the same course twice.
A couple of issues getting knocked off the servers and a lot of glitching/lag seeing the other drivers but didn't interfere with the enjoyment.
I honestly don't have a clue what the difference between all the different custom servers are or what difference it makes, I just choose recommended, select the top one and away I go.
Would quite like to know how to mute the music but keep the sfx which only seems possible on certain servers.

Overall the game looks fantastic but gets a bit samey after a while. Controls are a little twitchy on the xbox360 controller on default settings but you get used to it.
I imagine it will be even better after official release when the cream of the tracks rise to the top and you don't have to endure the shit ones quite so often.

Update is up for the single player levels. Load up the game and it should update. Needs admin privileges and it doesn't auto update for XP users for some reason. Can be found on the Nadeo forums.

Still no sign of this on Steam :( and it doesn't look like it's getting a retail release either, strange...

    Portable view - Never forget.

No retail AFAIK. And I wouldn't hold my breath for a Steam release as they have been cooperating with metaboli / maniaplanet / gamesplanet since United at least.

Shame about no puzzle or platform modes. :(((((

My handle is "maven", I need buddies who don't drive impossibly good times. ;)

Nice track Duff, that right hand corner after the second tunnel is a bit nasty though.

First impressions from the release version:
Single player maps as good as ever
Looks really impressive and runs really well (2560x1440 on "Nice" my late 2010 iMac)
Handling model includes controlled drifting and is good fun (I didn't really like the old Canyon handling)
Canyon tile set is surprisingly versatile
