I guess living in the US (and being a GI Joe collector) I'm seeing more of this movie but it's weird there's no thread here.

Anyway, in case you didn't know, John Chu (yeah, Justin Bieber's buddy) is directing a sequel to the 2009 movie, which he claims - as a fan of the toys - will be ''truer'' to the source material.

So far Channing Tatum (Duke), Ray Park (Snake Eyes), Jonathan Price (The President) and Lee Byung-hun (Storm Shadow) are returning from the first. Added for GI Joe 2 are Dwayne ''The Rock'' Johnson (Roadblock), The RZA (The Hard Master), Ray Stevenson (Firefly), Adrianne Palacki (Lady Jaye), DJ Cotrona (Flint), Elodie Yung (Jinx) and Joseph Mazello (Mouse.)

Filming starts later this month (I believe) and it's set for a June 2012 release.

I didn't mind the first one. It was silly, throw-away fluff, but it didn't overstay its welcome. Seems to be rare these days, where it seems like every action film needs to be like 3 hours long.

Shame I think Sommers did a fantastic job with the first one. It was silly, bombastic and over the top. As GI Joe should be. Having the blessing of Larry Hama makes it as true to the source material as it could possible be, as Hama's comics are the source material. As far as character and story the toys were, funnily enough, just props.

Saying that, I wouldn't mind seeing some more of the Joe and Cobra vehicles make an appearance. They were characters in their own right.

Fool me once, shame on Joe.

Fool me twice, I must be a fucking moron to sit through one of these again. Easily one of the shittest films I've ever watched. I made my girlfriend watch it with me and the guilt stayed with me for weeks, way after the initial agony of every cringe-worthy moment spent watching it with her next to me.

I think it has potential. I'm just worried that The Rock is going to outshine the lead. They should just kill-off Duke in the first 10 minutes and then let Roadblock lead the rest of the movie.

I love the first because it's GI Joe but it's not the amazing film I want them to make. Looking forward to the sequel.

Even if it's largely guff I'll like it anyway, same as Transformers.

Also, it's called GI Joe 2: Retaliation, not Retribution.

And New Characters and Casting Rumours ''far, far, far off.''

Its probably safe to say that the cast wont be quite as 'stellar' this time.

its quite amazing how many well known faces were in it.

I really lived the first one. As said, it's silly over the top fun.

Shame Gorden-Levitt isn't back. He looked like he'd be a good baddie. And Dr Who. And The Quiadster!

That's true but the second one has some interesting folks in it - The Rock, The RZA, the kid from Jurassic Park...

Put the Hiss in it, that awesome Cobra boat and the Terrordome.

I wonder if they will eventually do a crossover movie with the Transformers. If the 2nd makes money I'd be pretty amazed if they didn't.

Yeah, it was cool to see a HISS Tank in Renegades a few weeks ago (even if they did change it a fair bit...)

And who knows - the last SDCC-exclusive was the Sky Striker jet done in Starscream colours...

Action Force, the real British stuff, was pretty fucking wank. Although the SAS manny was kinda cool, the Nazis I mean Red Shadow troops looked cool and those rubber-ringed boats were fun to play with. The Roboskull was fucking awesome though.

The first one was OK, but wasn't it over-long IIRC?

I lurk. If I've spoken to you, I'm either impassioned, or drunk.

Probably a case of somebody thinking they'd only ever get one shot at it and so decided to cram in as much stuff as they could.

I really do need to watch it again though, as my memories of it are pretty vague to be honest. I think I was on a plane.

I just switched to cable TV and have a shitload of On Demand movies from the last 60 or so years of cinema, yet GI Joe is NEVER listed or even shown on any of the ''regular'' TV channels. It's like it never existed...

You know what I mean. Pretty much every major movie release (and most of the minors) of the last five or so years crops up at some point in the On Demand/movie channel schedules, apart from GI Joe.
