Release date for SC on Japanese PSN announced - 8 November. Too late for me as I already finished it, but a good sign for the west, perhaps.

I started The 3rd and the area reuse is really starting to take the piss. I don't like any of the new characters they've introduced, the writing quality seems to have gone off a cliff, and Kevin from SC with his ridiculous fake Osaka accent is the main character - no sign of Estelle at all and I'm afraid she's going to be turned into some one dimensional trainer maniac like Kevin's partner Riess. Still, I'll give it until 10 hours or so, as I like the upgrades to the battle system and they've made travel a lot easier on the player (there's a part in SC towards the end which is just infuriatingly, transparently there to extend the game).

Operative word in bold :) I just need Ghostlight (or someone) to get it translated and released over here - exactly the reason I bought the special edition of FC. That said, it might be quicker for me to learn Japanese ;)

I always get a little excited when I see this thread bumped.

Aww, did you want me to bump it a bit more? I say that because despite having the UMD game at launch, I've only just started - on Vita :p

There was a article about the 2nd part been released in english recently, here

With the games coming to Steam though, it does look more likely that we will see the full trilogy.

Is this game coming to steam? If so, is there a release date?

So.... got this on psn for my vita and I'm stuck on the training bit in the orb factory. Never felt so stupid. All the grey haired chick keeps saying to me is that I have to do something to have attack and recover arts no matter what I do with the quartz and orbs etc she just keeps saying it. I need help. So embarrassed.

Defeat is not getting knocked down, but refusing to get back up.

From what I remember the game doesn't do a great job of explaining what you're supposed to do in that bit. Have you tried looking at a youtube walkthrough?

I too had problems. I've long since abandoned this game. Will have to get back on it.

Is that right at the beginning with Scherazard? If my memory serves, you should use the sepith she gave you to buy a red attack quartz and blue recovery/HP quartz, then equip them in the Orbment menu if possible.

    That sounds about right.

The game doesn't really explain the whole quartz/orbment thing at all, although as you progress though the game, it becomes clearer and actually works pretty well :)

Ha! I used a walkthrough for that bit! Got about another hour in from there and haven't been back. A 32gb card would definitely help right now :-)

@uiruki I swear I did try that. Seemed that was the obvious thing to do.

Along with Xenogears, thsi is the only JRPG I can't get more than 2 hours into. Something about it just does not appeal.

TitS is definitely slow to start, but once it gets going, it's a brilliantly magical game.

    Love it!

It took til about the 10 hour mark for me. Sounds like a lot, but considering that the series so far has had about 250 hours playtime, and I'm still one game and a spinoff (Nayuta) behind, I think it's worth it.

On the flip side, I can't recommend starting off on it without knowing Japanese because I don't think they're going to translate SC or The 3rd. I've said multiple times that The 3rd was badly written, full of pandering and shitty new characters as well as the most egregious reuse of assets this side of Tales of Xillia 2, but playing through Zero it became very clear how much it matters to know the characters and what happens to them. Apparently Ao makes that even more satisfying - perhaps to the point where I might end up reassessing The 3rd!

Okay, tried again and just completed the prologue... After seven hours!

It is rather good and I am looking forward to seeing it through.

Is there any news on part two?

Ghostlight recently translated a different JRPG instead.

TitS is one of my favourite JRPGs. So it is rather sad we will not get to play the 2 sequels.

Just clocked this yesterday, had no idea it was a trilogy and ended very strangely at the time. Really good! Hoping for the SC translation but won't hold my breath

I think there's more chance we might see the series pop up on Steam sometime rather than be finished off on the PSP/Vita.
  • Deleted user 6 September 2013 10:40:05
XSEED are teasing something on twitter, and it appears to be a piece of artwork from Trails in the Sky SC (part two).
I'm guessing a Steam release of both games.

Keep your eyes out for an announcement soon.

    I'd prefer a Vita/PSP release, but I'll take a Steam one...
  • Deleted user 6 September 2013 10:55:50
PSN would likely be months after Steam (if at all) because of all the processes they have to go through. Steam is a lot easier apparently.

    It's official

    http://kotaku.com/one-of-the-best-rpgs-on-psp-gets-a-sequel-and-a-pc-por-1261239221

It will also be coming to PSN at some point next year. No dates yet.

That's good news as they'll be 6 games behing the Japanese in a few weeks! I had to count that on my fingers a couple of times. SC, The 3rd, Zero, Ao, Nayuta (disputably) and Sen.
  • Deleted user 6 September 2013 14:29:19
Maybe one day in the future when the apes rule the earth, we in the west will have caught up. Or maybe we'll just be even more games behind :(

I think the problem is the rate of release. It takes me a couple of months to get one and then I'm burned out on RPGs for a fair while. They can't release them too quickly and Falcom are putting them out at a fair rate now.

YES! Very happy - I just hope they either to a physical release on Vita (so I can import it) is do a digital release in Europe. Maybe Ghostlight should get in on the action!!
