Part of it's perceived value for money (you probably wouldnt go to the cinema to see a 10 minute film). But also as long as it can sustain the length then a great long game is better than a great short game imo.

Edge 9 I hear, we shall see.

Long def isn't better, loved limbo, braid, deadlight and if it is 8 hours that would be fine. Halo reach, max payne 3 etc all around 8 and perfect because they keep high standards and don't compromise quality with filler.

In this case it is not the type of game u rush. So I'm expecting just shy of twenty. Roll on Friday.

Yeah long is only better if it can sustain the length, if it starts to drag or has filler content then it would be better shorter, but if it's brilliant from start to finish then all the better if it lasts a long time.

There is no way this game is 4hrs. The amount of missions shown already would easily take more than 2hrs play and I can't see them having shown more than 50% of the game.

I think I'm the slowest gamer ever, I'll probably spend an hour admiring the menus.

(Apart from Homefront - fuck Homefront.)

@monkehhh Yeah, me too, I spent 20 minutes in the sewer in rage just admiring what a good job they had done of it. Most people would have just dashed through it.
  • Deleted user 7 October 2012 11:09:41
@jabberwoky ha I did the same but when you first walked outside at the start, just looking around. I also read all of deadlights diary before starting in the menu. Sometimes I rush games which is never a good thing, I will try to pace dishonoured out although I am so limited for time these days.

Devs said weeks ago it'll take most players 8-12 hours and double that to get everything.

Sorry i haven't been paying much attention to this until the past week. 8-12 sounds pretty decent

I refuse to watch films that last less than 98 minutes.

If you're worried about value, don't buy it for 35 on launch week. It's that simple guys.

It'll be 17.99 somewhere before Christmas.

Better yet, wait for the sequel. It will surely have multiplayer so you can get your "value".

I barely play any multi-player and Journey is quite possibly my game of the generation thus far, yet I still consider longer to be better as long as quality isn't compromised to achieve that length.

Genre is a big factor, a conventional strategy game or RPG that was over in a few hours would be disappointing no matter how good those few hours were because games like that are almost necessarily long. Dishonored from what I've seen of it also falls into a genre that all but demands length (and can certainly attain length without sacrificing quality). As such a short play time would be disappointing. But i'll be buying it day 1 regardless.

    Better yet, RENT IT.

It's what I'll be doing. I've saved literally hundreds and hundreds of pounds and had the same amount of enjoyment out of most games as those who've spent good money on them.

"Non-lethalled all the way through Dishonored. Might go outside and kill someone to relieve all my pent-up murderous tension now... I'm embargoed so can't say anything yet, but those claiming it's ridiculously short are idiot trolls, rest assured"

... so yeah, the game eh? Looks great!

I've been running a media blackout for this. Anyone else done similar? Saw the first 2 trailers, liked what I saw. Then decided to avoid all vids after that, but keep an eye on the general buzz. As such nothing will be spoiled for me come release day.

Well whilst they have released maybe a dozen videos there are all taken from the same level. So I don't feel I have spoilt anything. Will check review scores but not the text.

About renting. I don't like rushing and am v busy so renting isn't a realistic option for me. Plus I nearly always then trade in. For example witcher 2 cost me 6 quid as did sleeping dogs, both I owned for a month.

    @revan8

Er, you've never heard of the likes of Lovefilm/Boomerang then?

Take as long as you want and pay as little as 3 per title (6 a month minimum). I know of people who've had Lovefilm discs for years.

  • Deleted user 7 October 2012 13:55:58
True but I like to get a title when I want it and no wait. The other thing is I like to buy games to support developers, gay I know. I keep some to.

@Syrette I do that for most things (films especially) - I'd rather read someone's non-spoilery words than watch hours of what I'm going to be playing.

Anybody know when this starts pre-loading on Steam? I've pre-ordered with Greenmangaming but I haven't had my Steam key yet (have for X-COM which comes out the same day). This is Steamworks isn't it?

If you haven't heard of Lovefilm, you've obviously missed most of FANs previous posts in any game thread ever. This guy well and truly earns his commission ;)

@heavy_salad I guess they might give them out a little early, but have to say they won't just in case - or they might not and you're screwed ;)
