You disagree that the top most screen on the 3DS is better than the washed out display on the GamePad?

... I played Super Mario Bros. 3 on the GamePad and the same game (or another one of the Super Mario Bros. games) on the 3DS; whilst the screen on the 3DS is smaller, it is displaying greater clarity, stronger colours and doesn't look washed out.

As much as I love Metroid Fusion (bought it on the eShop yesterday, it isn't all singing and dancing when you play the game on the GamePad, which made me grumble, frown and feel ever so slightly upset, especially after the experience left my Earl Grey brewing one minute too long.

Depends which one you have. IMO:

3DS (top) screen > Gamepad screen >>>>>>>>>> 3DSXL (top) screen.

I have an XL because the battery life on the small 3DS is so bad, but it looks stretched and fuzzy and shit compared to the little one.

    @Zomoniac

I did indeed meant the 3DS XL screen (in the first place), but naturally, I just called different models the same thing, a 3DS!

... it appears we have a difference of opinion on the two displays as I didn't like the original 3DS model because of the hand cramps it gave me far too frequently whereas the XL is a revelation in comparison; comfortable and the 3D effect is much easier on the eyes, or at least my eyes.

Not a fan of screens that looks washed out, you see.

We have a difference of opinion on what is "washed out" as well! To my eyes the 3DS screen is crisp and vibrant, the XL by comparison is flat and lifeless, everything's fuzzy and it looks like someone dragged the colour saturation slider down a lot.

Well, I am comparing GBA and SNES games on the (two) screens, not the current retail games if that helps?

... or perhaps I am so used to the XL display that I no longer remember how good the original 3DS screen is.

Anyway, washed out screens or not, Metroid Fusion is well worth a (re)play!

The original 3DS screen does indeed look sharper and more vibrant compared to XL, but that's because it's about half the size, thus having higher pixel density. The XL screen looks fine for its size, and I upgraded to the XL because I much prefer the bigger screen.

And no, the gamepad display isn't worse than the 3DS. Could be that GBA games don't scale properly and therefore look better on the 3DS than on the gamepad, but the latter's actual screen is quite a bit better.

    Yep, I disagree.
I no longer have a 3DS, just an XL and the Gamepad screen is miles better in every way possible. The 3DS Xl screen is poor.

I like how the Gamepad seems to soften the image of Snes games. The colour seems to look better than on my TV, too. I must have a woeful TV.

The degree of pixelation for GBA games is abominable, verging on unplayable to me, when blown up on a full HD screen.

There should be an option to smoothen the visuals, in-game. On the virtual console screen, that is.

You can also activate it by pushing in the right analog stick, apparently.

Smooth makes the world of difference; Wars looks pretty neat. I've not tried anything else, yet.

I seem to remember you do it all on the gamepad, but it will want to set settings via the hdmi such as resolution.

Project S.T.E.A.M, eh? It's titled very similarly to that cancelled Wii game, Project H.A.M.M.E.R.

Apparently there's a Super Smash Bros Direct tomorrow night at 11pm for the UK. What are the chances we'll get a release date?

Interesting to see how many consoles Mario Kart and Smash Bros manage to sell, surely an upturn in sales.

I hope so! It's probably the game I'm most looking forward to this year. I think if we do get a date tomorrow it'll be around July-ish.

There will be a spike but I don't think it'll dramatically change things, it's sadly too late.
I can't wait to play them though.
Sad that Ninty are stuck in the dark ages with no voice chat even with friends in Mario Kart and surely also Smash.

Can't believe it's only April and there's already talk of a second 2014 release. And maybe even a third! They really have picked their socks up, hey?

    :D

I think you'll find we are already at the heady heights of 2 this year, good sir! Wii Fit U and Tropical Freeze. That's more than half a game a month from Nintendo. Well, published by.

It is kind of weird that Wii Fit U, one of the primary drivers of the Wiis success, was farted out with such little fanfare.
