Well i've just failed to get on to the 3DS eShop this morning. Friends List and Miiverse are running fine, but they have been this whole time. It's just been the eShop. I haven't tried the Wii U eShop yet, but I imagine i'll find no luck there.

Edit - Ok, i'm on there now.

Don't be the one who does the whole 'yes, okay, but ... ' please Raiko.

... you and I both know just how barebones the Wii U is without that first update you have to do.

I had to go onto the AMERICAN Nintendo website to see any real indication of what was going wrong. Not everyone signs up to the Nintendo Facebook page nor use Twitter so, it is a very poor two days from the wonderful 'family friendly' company.

The game I had was The Wind Waker HD and that is a download only game therefore technically, I couldn't even play anything on my Wii U.

Therefore I stand by my original statement:

    Nintendo are absolute cunts.

EShop was back up last night for me. Purchased Rayman and it downloaded overnight. Just need to offload the kids so I can play in peace and quiet! 😃

@CharlieStCloud I'm not saying it's not a steaming pile of poop. I'm just saying they were at least functional. I'd be just as annoyed as you if i'd got new consoles in which I had nothing to play.

Remember this is Nintendo, though. The games company who is notoriously hopeless when it comes to online functionality. If you're going to return the console, do so for that reason, not for a few days of buggery. I'd personally see out the warranty you have with the retailer, if you have one. At least you'll have a better idea as to what you're returning.

It's sort of impressive, in a backwards way, when you consider that Nintendo pretty much pioneered online gaming in the first place with their Satelliview thingy

Keep us posted on Knytt. It does look good. The only reason I haven't dipped yet is because i've got 4 games on the go on the Wii U at the moment.

You'll enjoy Edge, but I recommend usinng the d-pad. Not the analog stick. It's the way forward!

Currently hovering over the 'buy' button on this deal, even though I don't really have the money post-Christmas.

I think I just want a new console, for no particular reason :D

    Hello neighbours

NNID is Wedjwants if anyone wants to add me. I got my Wii U at Xmas and have no friends yet.

Can't stop playing Wind Waker HD at the moment, easily my favourite Zelda game and in HD it's even better.

Well, it only took 60 hours for Nintendo to pull their head out of the sand, but the Wii U actually functions (properly) for the first time in over two and a half days and ... yeah, it is quite good.

Maybe I am asking for a little bit too much however, the PS Vita screen spoils the display on the GamePad and has this hazy washed out look to it. Thankfully I don't have to worry about the screen too much when I am playing something as glorious as Super Mario 3D World!

The update took 20-25 minutes, which is nowhere as bad as some of the horror stories I had read in the past and once I set my Nintendo ID thing-me-bob up, I felt happy with my Wii U for the first time.

... quite content to with the PlayStation 3 and Wii U for a good year or two.

Nice to own the best of the three new consoles too, even though Nintendo are absolute cunts.

    : )

Right, I'm in need of help. How can you play games using just the pro controller if the pad battery is flat? I can start up LegoMarvelSH using the controller, but after the intro video the game says it needs the pad charged to continue.

    What am I doing wrong?

In case anyone doesn't know, Nintendo UK recently tweeted:

We apologise for the eShop connection problems. We know this is taking longer than expected, but finding a solution is our top priority.

To improve your experience, we are temporarily taking the Nintendo eShop services offline between the hours of 9 p.m. and 9 a.m. GMT.
I did see similar in another thread for another region, but for us in the good old UK that's our downtime.

@brokenkey Are you sure it supports it? Does out day so on the back of the box? I know Lego City Undercover only supports the Gamepad.

It's got all controllers on the back of the box, (pad, pro, wiimote+nunchuk), and if you're doing 2 player it works great for player two.

I had similar problems with MonsterHunter - starts up with Pad, then lets you use controller but still requires use of the pad for stuff.

Yeah, Monster Hunter can be confusing. Whilst the Gamepad retains uses, you can actually set up the HUD so you can play solely with the Pro Controller.

As for Lego Marvel Heroes, I can't really help. Sorry. :/

If there's nothing obvious when pausing the game, or in the pre-game options, i'm all out of ideas. Have you tried Miiverse?

Why is that horrifically bright white light always on on the Wii U?

... can you turn it off?

The blue light is like those xenon lights you buy to modify a rubbish car into an even more rubbish car.

The 3DS has that equally horrible blue light permanently on all the time too.

Stop putting unnecessarily blindingly bright blue lights on your products Nintendo!

The white light shows when a disc is in the system, I think. Entirely unecessary, but it's never really been a distraction for me. Probably because the console isn't directly next to the TV.

Just finished Wind Waker HD having never played the original (thankfully have had it for a while so not had to put up with the e-shop issues!). A great game for sure, but for me the focus was really on the exploration and the temple gameplay suffered as a result. They seemed smaller in scope, and though I'm not sure if this is true it definitely felt to me like there was less 'temple-time' overall.

I suppose it's quite the opposite of Skyward Sword and Link Between Worlds which despite small or limited overworlds both have excellent dungeons IMO. OoT still stands for me as the best marriage of exploration and dungeon mechanics - though haven't played it in a while so that may be the nostalgia talking.

    @Raiko101

Just plonked the Wii U on the wall-most side of my oak television unit resting atop those twin plastic u-shaped stands, which is handy ... therefore no more glaringly bright white and blue lights, hooray!

I wish to ask you something though:

... did you receive any Club Nintendo codes with your Wii U?

Oddly appears to be nary any with mine.

@CharlieStCloud I can't actually remember. If you've liked your NNID to your Club account, it may automatically register your Wii U for you. I'm not sure. I'll go dig out my Wii U box and have a look.

You said you got Wind Waker as a digital download, right? If so, that'll have definitely registered on your Club account.

    @CharlieStCloud

The console itself doesn't come with a code; you get the stars by linking your Wii U to a Club Nintendo account. Then, after at most 24 hours you'll be able to access a survey on your Club Nintendo which will give you the stars upon completion.
