@Sid-Nice Would have got it from there but the shop hadn't been made live when I placed my order. Same price on Amazon, which is to say it's about 10 more than it should be.

PC LAN Test on speedtest.net but the results on broadbandspeedchecker were very erratic. Wii U 12439 Down and 2878 Up.

    Wii U was obviously wireless.

I dont know if the eshop will allow you to do this, but your best bet is to download a fairly meaty game, time it, delete it and then try it again with the network adaptor.

Ordered from Amazon. I feel like I have been bummed but in the case of the Wii ones, they are quite hard to find for a reasonable price.

@Sid-Nice What broadband package do you have? I'm on plusnet fibre 40/20 I think. In reality I get about 25mb down and 5mb up.

Should be interesting when I get mine as I am on Virgin Media 60mb. I get 60mb at the router but the wifi is only about 15mb. Stupid Superhub 1.

Half of the cable which runs from the cabinet to my house is aluminium which means I can't get any faster. Good old BT, cutting corners and costs by using aluminium. Are they going to replace it? No chance :)

Virgin Media 120mbs down and 10mbs up. When I have my PC upstairs when the Christmas tree comes out I get about 85mbs down and 11mbs up wirelessly on my PC.

No good for the Wii U as it requires flash.

All you lucky folks that get multiple megs per second. In rural Devon we get two (if the wind's blowing in the right direction).

Does anyone want a 7 day code for Wii Karaoke U? I definitely won't be using it. Priority to people on my friend list.

Sorry Pinky just got the one with my Zelda Wii U. I'd have preferred Hyrule Historia even though I have a hardback copy of it already.

I can send it to Pinky or you can if you like vyse

@vyseofhr That would be nice of you but my intention wasn't to snipe your code! My girls are 2 and 4 and love to erm.... duet and rock out to twinkle twinkle little star. Which is funnier than it sounds.

Is the Sonic racing game good online? I quite like the demo but I can't see it being better than Mario Kart.

Nice Wii U deal on at ShopTo, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD Wii U 32GB Premium Pack, with Batman Arkham City, Assassins Creed 3, and Resident Evil Revelations for 289.85.

It's not better than Mario Kart, not by a long shot, but I do think it's clearly the best Mario Kart "clone" that I've played.

Here's my unscientific results from my wi-fi versus lan adapter tests.

    I'm on FTTC 40/20 Plusnet.

Re-tested my pc connection from my usual speed test site and get what I normally get from http://www.speedtest.net/:

    25mb down
    5.7mb up

This is usual for my connection.

For purposes of this test though, I had to use http://www.goesussex.co.uk/broadband-speed-test as it was the only non flash test that I found which gave reasonably consistent results from the Wii U browser and the PC.

It reports my pc as having:

    9mb down
    3.7mb up

I can't really explain the difference, it could well be that there is a big difference in hops/networks/latency for each test. Either way, both are consistent so obviously will use the goesussex one for my tests, despite it being much lower than what I get in reality.

I've hunted hard and it's very difficult to find a non flash speed test that is reliable or consistent to use with the wii u browser, sorry.

The firsts tests were done on wi-fi, 12 speed tests were performed and I omitted both the highest and the lowest then averaged the remaining 10. I then downloaded Trine 2 (582mb) from the e-shop and recorded how long it took:

    2.38 down
    1.066 up
    39 mins

The tests were repeated over the lan adapter wired connection:

    4.8 down
    1.32 up
    12 mins

One thing I noticed about downloading from the e-shop is that the download would slow down as it progressed. In essence. it starts really fast and by the time you are about 60%, it is much slower and stays slow until finished. You can tell this thanks to the new firmware as you can actually view how fast downloads are coming and also the estimated time of arrival. This slowdown over time happens on both wi-fi and wired. Nintendo servers? Most likely.

I also did the tests using a fixed IP/gateway etc but it made no difference at all to any of the wired tests, they were essentially the same.

If anyone can find me a decent non flash speed test that gives me an accurate result on my PC, I will happily re-test using that for the wii u. Unfortunately, using goesussex means that the actual numbers above are pretty meaningless apart from one thing - and that's the difference between the numbers. In that respect, it's probably an ok representation of the difference between wi-fi and wired on the wii u.
