    Zelda peaked on the SNES.

Mario Kart peaked on the GBA

Mario platform games peaked on the Wii.

    This is obvious.

I'm not sure about platform games - NSMBU is better than the wii version,
and there hasn't been another mario platformer released yet.
And Mario Kart DS was pretty special

I don't understand your stance though. You could've posted a bit more, so I'm clear on how you feel. Did you think the article itself is bobbins, but features a list of links that show valid concerns? Did you feel the article was well written in addition to a collection of good links? Did you think it was a good article, but the links could've done with being better? Did you feel it was a terrible article with terrible links? Are you somewhere in-between, and feel that the article raises some good points but also some ill-considered ones, and has a mixture of good links and links to obvious baiting?

I'm just not sure, and this being the Internet I wouldn't want to mis-understand you. It could be because you strongly agree or strongly disagree, with the point of the article or its tone.

I certainly think the Wii brand will be done after the Wii U. I can't imagine Nintendo will use it for their next console, given how toxic it's become over the past few years.

Whilst I don't feel that Joe Public will think it's been as tainted as people on forums like this one will, I can't see there being much advantage to sticking with it. It just leads to confusion with that group of consumers, and it certainly isn't helping them sell consoles. They really need to leave it behind.

I don't Joe Public cares... but that's the problem, they're now completely apathetic to the Wii brand.

So did everyone else who didn't just google a 'why wii u iz shit' article.

I like Emily Rogers, she's pretty even-handed with her criticism, but that article doesn't say anything that any person with the slightest bit of marketing nous couldn't work out for themselves.

    So, Luigi U. Worth it?

I won't be getting Game and Wario then as I already have a better minigame collection in Nintendoland it seems.

Looks like Pikmin next month then. Please be good.

I'm currently enjoying New Super Luigi U more than NSMBU and is well worth the 17.99 asking price in my opinion. The emphasis is now on speed with shorter levels and only 100 seconds to complete each course. After a little time getting accustomed to Luigi's controls I'm loving the game; my grandson will arrive soon and he'll be over the moon that Luigi is here.

Ah, nice. I'll look forward to grabbing this at some point then.

I was just having a quick blast on the vanilla game now the pro pad support has been implemented and I'm surprised they mapped the spin jump onto the Right bumper and not the ZL akin to the gamepad.

It's quite depressing, but i'm thinking after Donkey Kong, they'll surely work on it. Demand for it is sky high and they'll have nothing better to work on.

It'll probably be a few years though, so perhaps it's time to play through every single game in the series, again.

After pledging the Wii U to the core gamers the newly announced games seem to more in keeping with the casual Wii market.

If they actually had games ready for the launch window then maybe more core gamers would have bitten?

The new stuff isn't exactly 'core' material, but it's not quite casual either. It's something between the two. Hopefully it appeals to both as it'll encourage more people to take the dip. I assume that's the purpose of those games, because you're otherwise focusing too heavily on one kind of gamer, and leaving the other out to dry.

Needs more of the "Core" Nintendo franchises back. Metroid, Starfox, F-Zero etc.

Super Mario 3D World looks brilliant though. BIG LEVELS YAY!

I find the games they've announced appealing but they haven't shown any faith in Metroid, Starfox, F Zero to sell numbers.

Miyamoto has said a couple of times that the reason for the lack of sequel to FZero is that they don't know what to do differently. That rings hollow when new Mario Karts are still being released with minimal additions. Personally I think a modern FZero however conservative is a unique enough title. Bring back a retooled random track generator, add in a track editor and 40 car (not necessarily players) and there will be nothing to compare it to on other platforms. In regards to Starfox, how about looking to Panzer Dragoon Saga for inspiration?

Pikmin lends credence to their intent to release less mainstream games I suppose, I just can't believe they released the console with naff all support.

The fact that they are so tardy over Virtual Console releases is infuriating.

Problem with looking back at titles is that they are rose tinted. f zero bombed pretty hard. pretty much a vanquish sort of game. close to the heart but sold fuck all.

hopefully in time they will come. pikmin kid icarus, luigi mansion pilot wings and donkey kong have been rebooted so who knows!

Like to see some a new i.p and perhaps a look at some of the new i.p thats is on the 3ds store. Bigger console versions.

Im happy with whats coming its whether theycan continue their slow momentum and people jump on board with it

I think they should do a smaller scale F-Zero for the eshop to see if the demand is there and whether people actually like it and then either do a load of dlc for it or a new full retail title.

Also, couldn't there still be a new Metroid in development? It's just now now less likely to be a Rare developed one. I wouldn't love to see a small part of Rare make a 2D Metroid for the 3DS though!

Joel's got a point, looking at the data. In my mind, F-Zero GX is one of my mose treasured Gamecube games, and it's generally highly thought of by people here too. But looking at the data it sold basically fuck all in Japan and the US. That Nintendo (with help from Sega) pushed out two GBA games and GX around that time shows the at least had some faith in the formula back then, and I'd hoped that seeing an F-Zero mode in Nintendoland was indication they were thinking of doing something with it again.

On the other hand even shit MarioKart games sell a metric tonne, so it's obvious to make on of those, even if you've no decent ideas what to do (I'm looking at you, Double Dash).

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

You mean Retro when you talk about Rare right?

They could always try and bring back the older IP's as e-shop downloads. Starfox would be perfectly suited to this.

God dammit! I always do stuff like that! Yeah, I did mean Retro, though a Rare made Metroid game would certainly be interesting to see.

And I completely agree, I think it's weird that the only franchise Nintendo have made a new game specifically for the Eshop so far has been Mario vs Donkey Kong on the 3DS. I don't think they've done anything for the Wii U eshop yet either!
