It seems like such an easy design decision. If it's designed to be pressed or held with your grubby digits, you don't make it glossy. Sure, it'll look nice in photos but that's it. In real life it'll look like you were trying to harvest fingerprints from a crime scene with it. It's primary function is to be a controller.

The issue is heightened with the Wii U Gamepad, as it already looks big and chunky, so why try and make it all glossy as if it's a stylish piece of kit? I love the Gamepad, but it looks rugged and functional at best. They should've stuck with the theme and kept it matte, or as smooth as a PS3 pad at most. At least the Vita is shiny because it fits with it trying to be more stylish, though I'd still prefer non-glossy for the same reasons in the first paragraph.

    All IMO, of course :)

I would be willing to stick a cheeky tenner on the fact that the pad is glossy because matte was more expensive to produce.

You'll probably have difficulty having someone bet against you then, given I'm tempted to believe that's the case :) The matte stuff on the the back of the pad certainly feels sturdier if you give the pad a firm squeeze, so the glossy stuff on front is probably a lighter, less expensive plastic. Just speculation on my part though.

When you register new games on club Nintendo can these be swapped for the Nintendo point cards to redeem on the eShop? I am now up to 1750 points.

Points cards for Wii shop games, but not eShop games.

Enjoyed a blast of Nintendo Land Metroid at lunch. It's actually really quite a nice little mini game. Anyone else bothered with it? Seems to play better on foot than in the air, using the wiimote (spit) and nunchuck combo.

I love Metroid Blast! It's my favourite of the lot. It feels like an old arena shoot 'em up and the on-foot gameplay is definately the most fun. I do like playing as the ship though. Enough that i'd completed the main challenges twice over.

I don't have a Wiimotion Plus so can't use anything that isn't a spaceship, but the game itself certainly has a lot of substance to it, to the point it could just about be it's own game. Sure, a 5.99 downloadable one, but it still has some depth and enough content to occupy you for a while :)

It's a shame there's no online multiplayer. Playing the game in co-op is great fun, though!

I've played it quite a bit but only in multiplayer where it's great.
That, zelda and Pikmin are my favourites.

I played the metroid one, mainly the ship though. I mastered all of the first set of levels but once it ramped the difficulty up it got too much for me. It would be a good multiplayer game for the new metroid if that's what Retro are doing

Yep, Nintendo really screwed up by not making it online multiplayer

I enjoy the Zelda one too, it's extremely pretty! Not quite as much fun to play single player as Metroid though. Feels a bit more... limited.

The zelda one feels a bit slow paced compared to metroid, but it does look amazing.
I could never figure out how to do the target shooting one though.

I've just seen the E3 Direct news myself, I think it's a pretty stupid move to have it less than a full day after the MS and Sony press conferences. You'll get a lot of talk about which of the PS4 and Xbox One exclusives are better, etc, and then some people might get a little distracted by the Direct for an hour or two but they'll soon go back to talking about the others. To me, this suggests that they either have something big, new and surprising or nothing at all we don't already know about. Unfortunately, I think it's more likely to be the latter.

Not long to wait to find out now though!

I think it'll just be what they say - new 3D Mario, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros, and that's it.

Maybe, though I believe they said "and more" so probably just Wind Waker HD as well :-P

I think it's about time we get some details on Bayonetta 2 though and maybe the new Xenoblade-esque thing if we're really good. Something they've not even hinted at before would be welcome though, just one for the people like us on here, something like Metroid, F-Zero or a decent Star Fox.

And a new IP or two?

Oh, and of course Sonic: Lost World should be there. Sega have just released an image of it with some character silhouettes. I expected to be dissapointed that the annoying characters would be returning but I don't recognise a single one of them. Perhaps there's an all new cast of annoying characters? Or have I just not played enough Sonic games?

I'm all for Nintendo using directs instead of holding a bombastic E3 conference... but June 11th for the next one? The advantage of a direct would be choosing when you get media coverage... a day after Microsoft/Sony/Ubisoft/EA is risky business. Would've thought either a few days before or after so the media pipelines are clearer.

Guessing they want to tie it in with their whole Best Buy promotion thing in the States.

I'd like to think it is because Nintendo are feeling confident with their games and other tidbits of information however, directly AFTER the others...?

    Brave.

It'll be great if they had at least one genuinely unknown surprise. A new IP would be a welcome change too!

Before, after, it makes no difference. If they have games that interest people more than Sony and Microsoft's offerings they'll get plenty of attention.

Not as surprising as the fact that they (and apparently everyone) are charging 40 for New Super Luigi U.

    BAAANG!!!!! EXPLOTION!!!!!

Is that really it's retail price? For some reason I had the impression we were looking at around 20 for the DLC. To be fair, it's technically the same size as New Super Mario Bros U, but neither game should be 40. The first should have been 30 and New Super Luigi U should be 20 tops.

Edit - I know that's quite a contradiction there, but i'm thinking that more of the same isn't quite worth it's value when it's built around existing content.

I'm guessing that if it's not just nonsense it could be a HD remake or something, that would have neogaf in utter meltdown!

Lego City Undercover, just class. Played up until the end of the first main mission, climbing a building and chasing bad guys and laughing at the Naked Gun style humour throughout.

When did Lego games get so good? Last one I played was good clean fun but nothing that overly grabbed me.

    @Pinky_Floyd

I think its a one off mate. I'm the same. Thought other lego games were Ok but nothing to write home about.
LCU though is just brilliant. The missions, humour, unlockables etc. Its totally surprised me.

Hopefully after e3 there will be more to look forward to.
