Police Quest was less an adventure and more an annoying course in anal retentiveness.

I worked on the Nintendo hotline for a day. Nintendo UK was the other notable thing about Eastleigh apart from Chris Huhne.

It was awesome, they had a Killer Instinct arcade cab in the office.

    It blew my little mind.

I never had the patience for point and clicks, which is why I dont really remember them particularly fondly. Police Quest in particular can fuck itself.
The recent Monkey Island rereleases made me realise the genre probably wasn't for me.

Very highly regarded but I just find the logic tenuous.

I enjoyed The Walking Dead a lot more. There was the same pressing buttons on things like a baby with a shape desk thing but it at least attempted to be less needlessly convoluted. The threads through MI were tedious for me. It was the story and your input into the narrative that pulled me through that.

Like meme, I spent hours puzzling over adventure games (point and click, and text only before that) back in the day. Later on I'd play them with my gf, both of us working on trying to figure what to do next.

These days though, fuck that. I got Beneath a Steel Sky a couple of years ago having missed it when it was originally released. It lasted about 10 minutes till I quit, never to be started up again.

BaSS is one of my favourite games of all time. I've completed it so many times on some many platforms...

I spent hours getting stuck in games when I was a kid, not because I wanted to do it myself, but because I had no way of finding out what I was supposed to do.
I'm sure that if the internet was as prevalent when we were kids we'd all have done exactly the same. Kids have never been patient.

That said, a big part of my childhood was spent trying to find Mew in Pokémon red. The internet would have ruined that experience for me in 5 minutes.

I'm not so sure - so many methods of Mew ownership were made up, you'd have wasted many an hour trying all sorts of weird and wonderful ways to get him ;)

    Thanks for the responses guys.

But let me get this straight: can you put the gamepad into a sleep style mode which you can then resume at a later date without having to reload the game, reload your save etc?

Nope, the virtual console has that feature alone.

After watching the 17th's Nintendo direct video I was a bit surprised by what they believe is credible Nintendo Seal of Quality now. The Mario/Sonic at the Olympics was like watching a 5fps inept rework of the Vancouver 2010 game. It is like Monkeyball Vita Target minigame awful.

The free Super Luigi bros U content looked hight quality for 2D platforming, but Game & Wario looks like a poor flash game compendium to play free in a browser, Pikmin looks quite similar to the cube version and everything else looks very poor and choppy in the framerate department.

But more importantly, if Nintendo can't distant themselves from the Wiimote and laud the benefits of the expensive WiiU pad being bundled, then they are going to take this console full Milo kinect, and ruin my 100% success rate of buying successful consoles.

They should have put 10 cell chips in there man.

The hardware isn't the problem, it is the misguide strategy of Miyamoto and Iwata with wiimotes that is digging their grave. They are confusing short term fad profitability as being a endorsement of a control method people are repelled by.

Ah, come on man. Imagine how many Mario's we'd have on screen with a cell chip in there.

    Would have been otherworldly.

Sat back this eve and played Super Metroid on the gamepad.  More of this type of thing please Nintendo!  It looks and plays great on the gamepad.

I can't buy it. It keeps asking me for a password for my credit card but I never actually made one.

Do those flip cars actually work? I'd imagine they would create much mayhem. Unless a flip car tried to flip another flip car.

This. As soon as I found out the U still used this, my heart sank :-(

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Isn't that one of the games that's actually coming out on Wii U? This week, in fact. Not that I want it, I'll be buying NFS for my racing fix.

Death by apathy just makes me think of Kinect. Everyone remembers Kinect right?

There's a lot of doom and gloom surrounding the Wii U at the moment but damn if the appetite to discuss it (and Nintendo in general) seems to never abate. They have a pretty good lineup of games coming and that will determine it's success or failure.

The difference is that kinect is a peripheral, so its probably not the best comparison to draw.

And, fwiw, there were more kinect games out in the 'launch period' and I would imagine they sold better.

Yes and it is absolutely rubbish; ironically many of the comments on YouTube are actually slating the Wii U for having poor graphics etc. when the version in the video is the Xbox 360 build.

I can't help but feel we would have forgotten about Kinect if it wasn't for MS trying to shove it down our throats whether we like it or not.

It remains to be seen if they "do a Nintendo" and push gimmicks no-one wants over the core experience.
